Description These feel so imposing to be standing near. They are each the size of the other torii that I posted, with people for reference on the size, but they are surrounded by woods; trees taller than the gates enclose the area.

It really is quite mystical to be in, especially when there were not a lot of other people visiting the shrines like it was on the day we went.

Mid-December, we checked out a car and decided to go to Usa Jingū . It is one of the largest shrines in the area, and one of the most important Shinto shrines dedicated to kami Hachiman in the country. It is a huge complex of many shrines, which we only got to see about a quarter of in our time there. We will be heading back once it gets warmer out (and the colors aren't so drab), and taking many pictures. For now, however, here are some of the pictures from this midwinter shoot.

It's a huge open courtyard, and the torii are just friggin huge and rather high up... I cant wait to go back and get some more shots here :3
