My, my, I've missed a great deal by being out this semester. You've been busy, and done some very nice work! I remember way back when you came out with the Koboshi picture, and that was great... and you seem to be getting better. Ho ho, I'd be interested to see what you'd do with me! I suppose you could use an officer and a gentleman, hmm? If it helps, I do have my degree in engineering now, and I scored in the 97th and 98th percentiles on me AFOQT, for pilot and navigator respectively. I fenced and acted in high school, and I've already got me a wicked scar on my right jaw to boot. I'm sure you could think of something if and when you get around to it, oh my yes. ^^

Hehe, I was an epee guy for the most part. It was just a club (not even a team) we had in high school for a little while, but all ya really need to know is the basics. After the club broke up we had some stage fighting in a production of Twelfth Night (since our director realized he had some fencers)... let me tell you, stage fighting is hilarious! You basically have to move at half speed so that the audience can actually tell what's going on - because anyone who knows nothing about the sport can't keep up!

Yes indeed, I would have joined the team in college but it was just so much of a commitment. That plus, like many people who fence, most of the team members act superior to non-fencers. This is something I used to do too, I think it's part of a larger trend in martial arts where the practicioners feel more powerful than people who can't match their fighting style/talent (I actually used to be something of a bully!). I had mostly left it behind by college, so it was something of a turn-off. I'm actually friends with someone who used to be on the team and he generally agrees with my assessment (he also seems a lot more personable now, but this is unrelated. He simply became more easy-going at some point).
All of this is unimportant to your athletic endeavors, though, my dear. I highly encourage you to take up the mask and sword again! Just remember to stretch those quads and hams.

Yeah, I was thinking that but wasn't going to say it! We had lots of jokes about the boob-plates (one of the fencers around my age was a free-thinking girl, half of them were from her!). It took us a while to figure out why there would be pockets on the inside of the fencing jacket...

Well, we didn't have any girls fencing epee with us, so I dunno about that. Plus I have poor point control anyway. I guess from the side, it could be a problem - what could be a glancing chest blow becomes something much worse (and probably painful, since the plates are in front). It's probably a good thing that there were no girls on epee, my regular sparring partner was a really tall and skinny guy (ahh, bad point control! I think I beat him once, after disabling his kneecap) who was vicious with that weapon - this is the guy who made me bleed despite striking me through the canvas jacket.

I can't recall if I've even commented on this one yet or not... but it seems fresh in my mind. 0_o
Yarr, anyhoo, marvellous (I don't think I've really ever used that word either... XD) shading and lineart on the hair. The smooth simplistic design on the outfit doesn't take too much of this away either, as the two come together fairly well. With the right colours, it should merge even better. Love the angle of the hat and the small blade tied with the ponytails btw.
And I'm just taking a stab at this too, but the title symbolises herself/yourself as a former crew member of a... arrgh, I can't get the word into my head! ... Government ship? (Reason why I ask is because of the costume itself, and the rank on the sleeve.) The sly smirk looks like she's mocking her former station of course.
