Description Geez, I think I spent more time on the text with this than the actual picture.

I'm constantly mentioning *lily-fox in my description for good reason - her stuff is beyond gorgeous and she has an awesome original character named Jenny St. James, who's so lifelike, you'd think she really did exist somewhere.

I've always had a ton of characters floating around my brain, but this one only recently came to life; this is Miriam Lebna, an Ethiopian-American fashion nut.
Now before you say 'What the hell?", let me just say: I've had an interest in Ethiopia since I was a kid. We had family friends named Tommy and Hana who owned a pastry shop by my grade school, and I'd wait there for my mom to pick me up every day after school. Hana was Ethiopian and just the sweetest, most interesting person you'd ever meet. She was constantly telling me stories about Ethiopia, and I was doubly interested because there are many Ethiopian women who come to my Orthodox church every Sunday, and I'd always been curious about them.

Miriam is a giant mixture of inspiration from those women, from Hana, from *lily-fox 's Jenny, from Ethiopian model Liya Kebede, and from some of my favorite African- and European-born, retro-funky musicians like V.V. Brown, Nabiha, Janelle Monae, and Priscilla Renea. I've been wanting a character I can channel uncategorized artsiness through and dress up in fashionable things that I myself don't wear, thus; Miriam.

I don't know a whole lot about her yet, except that she was born in Ethiopia but moved to America with her parents early on. She's in fashion and she loves larger-than-life, grandiose people and names like Bathsheba and Hatshepsut. And she can sew a bitchin' dress from scratch. (Oh lord, I am so looking forward to drawing clothes out the wazoo.)

I like her ponytail but I actually think she looks better with just the short hair. It'd be new for me to try.

Again, much thanks goes to *lily-fox for constantly inspiring me with her art, particularly the invention of Jenny. Promise I'm not trying to copy her. /incessant fangirling.

EDIT: Fixed the text so it's less messy and obtrusive.

Miriam is AMAZINGGG. Those eyes. And what a gorgeous body, too. While I clearly do not have a knack for drawing wild clothes, I have this special insatiable lust for SEEING them drawn, so this totally butters my bread. I can't wait to see all of her different outfits! I love that detail in this, the spools and thread, the leather band in her hair, her rings and bangles and oh man, the pleating on her bolero! So beautiful.

I can't even tell you how jazzed I am that I inspired you in any way. C: Ha ha, and Miriam and Jenny are so different, but I know she would love Miriam. I already do!

Ahh thank you!! I'm so glad you like her.

I love seeing clothes drawn, too...I'm excited to draw Miriam with a lot of really sleek, high fashion type stuff on, once I do a little research. Hopefully I can do funky things to her hair too.

I love her face. It's almost inherently friendly and gives you the impression that she'd have something both wry and wise to say to you in a conversation. The huge stools of thread are way too much fun and her outfit is rowr. I like it, professional but not cold.

Wow, thank you - that is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm glad you were able to get that from this picture, especially 'professional but not cold.' I appreciates it
