Description The Multi Action Dust Rapier Myrtenaster wielded by Weiss Schnee in the RWBY white trailer .

I am really pleased how it has turned out thus far;

Moving on from its previous iteration , the main cylinder which consisted of glued together MDF disks has had clay added to the end of it to build up the shape of a revolver cylinder

After a decent shape was achieved a generous application of Bondo took place followed by a great deal of sanding, topped off with a wonderflex cut-out wrapped around to simulate the 6 bullet chambers

The cross guards were also cut from MDF, shaped and glued on accordingly to the main body of the sword

Next step is to do some last touch ups and details and start the arduous task of painting.

That's amazing. I was hoping to try making this myself but I've never made a cosplay weapon before and I lack the facilities to cut wood...

Got any advice on making Myrtenaster?

Work with what is in your skill set and is available to you. I've seen things made of papier Mache and cardboard hold their own against wood and plastic, because the maker had put the effort and time into ensuring it looks the best it can be.

As for making Myrtenaster or any prop for that matter the first step is research. Gathering as much reference photos and info you can relating to what your going to make should be priority number one

When I was first starting out making props I spent a lot of my time at Cosplay tutorial reading up on materials and methods I could learn and apply to my own work.

For Myrtenaster I kept looking up on rapier and sword guides and examples people had already made and expanded from there

Hope this has been of use ^_^

i watched both the White and Red trailers and i can say that i'm definitely looking forward to the rest.
i also have an idea that could possibly make this project even more awesome if you make another one.
you could work in some lighting effects (clear optic cables?) through the chamber and blade, so that when the chamber rotates, the blade turns a different color (the chamber would have different colored lights in each bore)

Sir to do such a thing would be INSANELY COOL BEYOND ALL REASON , but Im holding off on that for now to wait and see what other features they'll write in, come the start of the series

Does the revolver chamber spin? Because that would be beyond awesome Either way, it's shaping up really well. Can't wait to see it finished

It does not sadly , BUT THAT WOULD BE FRIGGIN NUTS IF IT DID!!!, going into this build I didn't think to have that feature built in;

maybe next time... ^_^

Pretty awesome so far. Curious, what'd you use for the dome shape on the turret?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tatsutetsu In reply to GB-Faldrez [2013-02-23 11:37:25 +0000 UTC]

To the disks I had sandwiched together, I shaped a dome out of clay on the end and let it harden, with that base I then smeared Bondo/ Automotive body filler to the entire thing, I let that harden and sanded it down until I got a shape I liked.
