^Lakewood icon there again because it's Twitch working Hollo in the Temple this time

...

This is the second of two images as a breeding payment. All done, and this has been a blast

The mare I'm buying a slot to is a Faime pony called Sonnet owned by Sashafras (you'll see Sonnet and get a link to her in the upcoming breeding image)

The mare featured here is another of hers, a draft chimeric, Wild feline Faime called Sleepy Hollow.

I was told she likes dressage and halter, so I decided to base each of the training images on those disciplines. This first was halter and this is Dressage.

This image is based on some basic level schooling for a couple of reasons. I didn't know how experienced Hollo was in the discipline, and also, I'm a fond believer that you can never do too much flatwork I've brought in the poles to school over, because they're a great multi-purpose tool. You can use lines of poles, or even fans, placed around the corner of the arena, to work over in all paces to improve regularity, tempo and rhythm within the pace. You can also use poles to really get the horse focused on where their feet are, and to think more about lifting them, which is the beginning of teaching elevation.

In this case, its a bit of everyhing. By schooling over these poles, Hollo's trot can develop into a very rhythmical one, and it will also encourage her to think about her feet and lift up through her ribs and tummy, which is also an early step to proper collection and work in an outline.

And she's been plaited up a little bit because Twitch likes plaiting, and just to get her in the mindset. I put her in a flash noseband, just in case she's the type to open and evade, as some horses like to with poles. Twitch is riding because she likes dressage, and they chose the indoor arena - the Temple - because there's no other distractions and its bigger than the outdoor.
...

Artwise...When I saw the photo on google, I knew I wanted to do polework, so it all fell into place from there. I sketched using the photo as a visual reference, then got rid of it to edit the sketch to my liking and do the rest. It all flowed quite nicely without huge hiccups, it just took a while for all the elements to finish what with other things happening. The background I finished tonight (it was originally totally different, but I thought it would be too detracting from the horse. I'm not 100% sure I like how the sun rays came out, but I'm happy enough I am really happy with Hollo, though

I not-greyscale coloured everything, editing the brownscale to get the colours right and erasing the layers as I needed. Same method as the last image. It was a bit quicker this time around, thanks to having done Hollo's pattern once before. And I ended up copying over her leopard print from the previous image and editing as I needed.

The background is entirely airbrushed again, save the outline of the poles and the little dust motes. I kind of left it large to help you feel like the space was bigger - not sure if that worked...

...

Hope you like this one, Sashafras! I really enjoyed working with Hollo for these

Love this training image too.  I really like the indoor arena, with lighting and the poles.  Of course, the horse and rider too.

When am I going to come into an indefinite amount of money so that neither of us have to work again... and I can just pay you to put all my horses through training?  Dreams wistfully...

Thank you! This looks quite light and airy for the Temple at Lakewood, but I really like it XD The horse is just a touch off (I think her legs are a bit long, looking back) but she's so pretty, and fun to paint

Haha, if you could pay me to draw your horses and it would pay my bills, we'd have a deal XD Sadly...not too likely We can dream

IDK I JUST SCRIBBLE AND PUT HAIR AND BOOTS ON IT

(but really...I've only really learned to draw people in the last 5 years, and until the last 2, I was still pretty bad. Even now, some of them don't work at all, so I'm still constantly developing them. I understand and love anatomy, I know what a riding position should be, and the common faults in one and all those things help a ton. The rest of it is knowing proportion, how to stylise it, expression (which I'm still crap at - go to Westernspice for lessons there) and uber lots of practice). Sorry I can't help more than that ^^

Aw, thank you so much - I'm really glad that you like it She's such a pretty mare and its been a delight to draw her, actually. I hope the training and my ideas behind it make sense for you, too (I can imagine some people going 'poles for dressage??' ^^)

And thank you! I really appreciate that. I'll be working on the breeding image next, so you'll get alerted when that's posted and then I'll be sending in a note for the foal. Thanks again for this

Some of them are definitely pretty ones. How come they're your favourites? The colour combinations?

I've always been one for sharp markings, and when you throw them in black they just become all the more attractive <3 Then with that shade of brown/red, it's positively lovely.
