Description Hoffman Fabric Challenge quilt, 2010.

Every year Hoffman (a fabric company) designs a special fabric to be used in their challenge. This past year the challenge fabric was the beautiful turquoise blue seen in the large "petals" of this piece.

The quilt design was inspired by a piece of Islamic tilework. Now I know why 10-sided stars are not a popular quilting pattern. The stained-glass look comes from very thin black bias tape, ironed on, then stitched over.

There's also a small button in the center made out of crocheted-wire, another craft I picked up a few years back.

This was my third year entering the contest. I haven't won (and am not likely to, considering the skill level of most of the quilters in this contest), but I have had my quilt chosen to travel the country in a trunk show all three years

Thanks! It did turn out pretty well, considering I had the first 3 "layers" done and had to rip everything out and start over again. This one will be going in our "nursery" whenever it gets back from traveling the country
