Description To go along with my current Tangled kick...

The floating lanterns are a design called a Harmonic Convergence, by Ricky Tims. I do a lot of this type of quilt because I find it's an excellent backdrop for applique and fancy embellishments.

Flynn and Rapunzel are appliqued on with fusible webbing, then hand-stitched in place. Rapunzel's braids are made of embroidery floss and her flowers are store-bought fabric flowers and beads. She also has real lace trim and ribbons on her dress.

Machine-pieced and hand-quilted.

Their faces and highlights are done with Prismacolors (and I'm really liking the way they work on fabric!)

thanks
The best part about having a "stash". All the fabrics I used in this piece I already had at home.

Why, thank you!

Quilting isn't difficult, even if you're not very comfortable with a sewing machine. All you have to do is be able to sew a straight line The background of this piece (the squares that look like floating lanterns) is actually easy enough for a extreme beginner--I worked with a friend on a similar design, and she'd never used a sewing machine before!

I dunno - straight lines aren't exactly my forte (my art teacher can attest to that, for sure). I might try quilting someday, but I'm gonna stick with admiring work like yours for now. :'D

thankfully, there's a nice little ruler on my sewing machine for making those straight lines, otherwise I'd be in trouble too
