Description Zekkel was an unfortunate Excorcists initiate who failed the secondary daemon possession trial, which was practiced among this "Grey Knights ripoff" chapter. Realizing he'd be executed after his corruption is known, he prepared to fight for his life - a decision virtually unknown of amongst the Excorcists space marines.

But, Brother Zekkel was a fellow that found life and its pleasures too hard to part with in the prospect of his gruesome demise. Though amongst Torturer's warband he's not known for battle prowess, but rather his spiritual and occult side, the single fact that he managed to escape an Excorcists battle fortress and Inquisitorial pursuiters tells that the most pacifist of the renegades harbors more power than meets the eye.

So there's Zekkel waiting for his former Brothers to come and kill him, alongside an overseeing Inquisitor Lord.

Solid work on the armour.

Always wondered where this guy was from :3

Apart from dem elbowguards, I can find nothing to crit really, beyond the rather crude door lightning, which I think could have been handled better in a separate layer with Overlay. Then again, that point is moot if you were aiming for traditional painting in digital. (I still think you should have a go at acrylics/oils on canvas again and photograph your results. Be interesting to see your growth!)

You strike a good balance with the detailing now, I think. It's not too cluttered or too crude. The armour is nice and sharp (and yes, its Exorcists and yes, they are red, but you need to do some green, yellow or silver... or turquoise like a more refine Alpha Legionnaire hint hint )

Will you allow one character question? Zekkel's skin and the scribbles on them that appear later: are they tattoos or a bi-effect of the daemonic possession gone awry? And are they based on any language or just random squirlies? Because yes, this is important for a project I have. And I now have time to do it.

Exorcists, he was a real churchboy)

Yes, I do try to emulate traditional painting techniques. Real life shit is too messy for me nowadays, but maybe some day I'll do it) When I get my own house instead of 1-room flat) Good to hear about the detail balance, that's something I've always been struggling with,

Zekkel's tattoos appear after he joins the Word Bearers. They're essentially just that, tattoes, done in a technique that allows them to shift on the wearer's skin. Funny thing is that the texting is permanent, so that even though Zekkel isn't a legion-assigned Word Bearer, but a Slaaneshi demagogue, the texting is still the same, from the Book of Lorgar)

Oh, what project?

Ah, okay.

As for the project: how things change in a few days. You'll see, but shit just got very busy very fast. But it is for the better, for my life. I'll bring more info on dA later when things have cleared up a bit.

While I think the lighting of the opening door is somewhat crude, the concept and placement are just perfect. I kind of struggle with 'just too little detail to enjoy' and 'Just enough detail, no bullshit.'

For someone that went from super KILL ALL DAEMONS, and then in a way embraced it, his armor is really clean. There's not much desecration/wear aside from the usual roughness. Will you change that as you progress with this character? And or write stories as to when he carved his first 100 chaos stars?

Also nice art. Derp. No edit button. I like the lighting strip, very film-like. My only question is that; shouldn't the light be angled more towards the center, or have him kind of facing that direction? It feels a bit odd.

Very good, just the right level of detail. You avoided being overburdened with crap but kept it very interesting to look at. I especially like the carved wards and the eyes.

Nice depiction of when this process goes "wrong". I prefer these guys to the Grey Knights, less eye-rollingly uber and a more interesting colour scheme.

So, I'm getting mixed ideas, are the purpleish eyes a sign he's Slaanesh affiliated or is the armor red for Khorne? Maybe both?

Holy moly. An actual more ''human'' looking in your Warband? I like the whole 'pacifist' thing too, maybe link me the story of him or make one? :3 I am very intrigued to know more about this fella.

Anyway, as an artpiece, I like the whole pose and mood of the character. *i suck at describing my thoughts I know >.>* Even if he's on the chaos side I don't really get that ''evil'' vibe from him as I do from your other characters. Even with all the pentagrams and skulls

Color is nice too,not too much, not to little :3 Keep up the good work!

TD-Vice In reply to HellSecond [2013-05-29 07:13:59 +0000 UTC]

His story is somewhat described in a few installations of my fanfics, actually.

But yeah, he had a pretty rough life. He briefly associated with Word Bearers, but then left them due to the fact that his connection with the slaaneshi daemon that posseses him is very weak and he's not a true Word Bearer by geneseed. He was outcast eventually, so he went on to spread the word of Slaanesh alone.

Main thing is that indeed, he's more about recruitment, diplomacy and mentoring than brute force, and he's fascinated with mortals, much more than other Astartes like himself whom he consideres irrevocably damaged and therefore not as attuned to the warp.

Thanks mate.

Grey Knights - Exorcists
Recruit from Pskyers, who are pretty much Daemon-chow - Recruits are possessed and exorcised of Daemons, making them invisible to Daemons.
Kills or mindwipes everyone who sees them - Don't murder innocent civilians for being saved by them
Recruits from an already rare population and only 1 in a billion survive Recruits from an entire planet, and two extra scout companies offset the lethality of Daemonic Possession Therapy
Only fights Daemons - Actually fights non-Chaos enemies on a regular basis
Secret base is in one of the most overpopulated solar systems in the Imperium - Secret base is in the middle of a forbidden sector

it ain't just saw some guys arguing over grey knights and exorcists.

As for the art work, its excellently drawn and coloured as always. Really the brutal and dark style that more modern 40k shit should look to. And the background story is very good, I like the Idea of a possessed - doomed marine being the renegade spiritualist. Great job.

Changed Zekkel from being a Word Bearer eh? As cool as the failed initiate story is, I think I liked the Word Bearer Demagogue background better if only because of your other piece of work regarding Zekkel of him looking over a grieving heretic trooper. It was very powerful for me and I felt it added a strong element to Zekkel's character as one of the few among the Sick Six who truly understood humanity and why they fight as they do. It is still an awesome piece and certainly captures the look of a proper Slaaneshi possession. Just my two cents.

Glad you dig.

Nightbringer24 [2013-05-28 21:23:06 +0000 UTC]

Very impressive. I'm especially fond of the lighting with the door crack, since it makes it look like that split second before the door opened enough for him to burst through and kill those sent after him. Or start blasting at them, whichever way.
The armour looks suitable scuffed up and I especially like the symbols on his armour, although I can't decide on whether he carved them on or used blood to paint them on. Although the background lends credence to the second idea. His are suitably deamonic, and work brilliantly in contrast with his pale skin. I was honestly a little concerned with his fingers, but then I looked more closely at his bolter and it made more sense for them to be thinner than fat chunky sausages.

Also nice to see more expansion on the back story of Torturer's warband and the Sick Six. Can't wait for more.

Hah yeah, that was exactly the effect i wanted to achieve, a sense of an impending brawl, the last second before the doors open and carnage begins.

Well, the Exorcists do carve these symbols on their armor for protection against daemons.
