Description I'm a bit sick of seeing all these images on the DeviantArt front-page with the same stupid messages. Seriously, if you really want to help, do something that will actually make a difference. Those people need more than prayers and blessings!
Two hands working can do more to help than a million clasped in prayer.

International Medical Corps is responding to the health needs of the disaster's victims. To donate or learn about other ways you can contribute to their medical response, visit [link]

The Red Cross has also launched efforts in Japan. Visit [link] or text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10

Some other groups you can check out are:

Network for Good - [link]

Interaction - [link]

Global Giving - [link] or text JAPAN to 50555 to give $10

Just an afterthought, but who the fuck are you people praying to exactly? Cause isn't god (assuming he exists) the cunt who caused the tsunami and earthquake in the first place?
That's like asking a serial killer to help save the victims he just murdered!

Hmmm... Gee lets think, I'm 17, I have no money or a credit card, I'm currently unemployed, anything that I CAN do for Japan I can't do because I can't just drop everything, join a charity or relief organization, and fly to Japan to aid the relief efforts. So yeah, I'm pretty much just some useless bum who's sending useless prayers to people who need to know that there are actually people who care.

Things like this make me feel worse because, right now, there's not a single thing I'm able to do. I have friends who have lost people in that stupid earthquake and tsunami and are actually still searching for other people they know. But, then again, I guess don't really care about them if I'm just praying and hoping those people will be okay, am I?

Well, for some people praying has a lot of meaning. I personally am not the praying type either, I donated money and tried to make sure my friends over there are safe and now all I can do is watch the news and cry 'cause there's really nothing else you can do than that.

And while I don't want to offend anybody, neither religious nor agnostics, it's easy to blame "God" for everything. If you ask a person of the church "Why does God allow all these bad things to happen to mankind, why does he allow war, natural catastrophe, hunger etc." he'll say that to God, we are like children and while you want to prevent your child from putting its hand on a hot stove, it still has to get burned once to fully understand just why it shouldn't put the hand there when it's hot.

Again, I'm not justifying all these "Pray for Japan" signs either and most of them do annoy me to be honest, but it just shows how helpless people are and of course they don't have a general solution about what to do. Besides, banners like that raise awareness and after being on the net almost straight from the 11th on, I think it's much needed.

I think especially in these times we shouldn't point fingers nor nit-pick but rather be open-minded and tolerant. Everybody deals with things differently and I am sure many of the "Pray for Japan" people did donate money as well...

... but that's just my personal privat opinion.

Heh, you're welcome^^

I am not religious either, at least not in the classical way, but I just had to relieve some pent-up anger because there were things I've seen on the net that made me very, very sad. The fact that we are faceless, nameless people on the net makes critisizing very easy and if we don't open our eyes from time to time and try to see the other side too, we'll become emotionally and logically deprived.

some people can't donate, and so they send those messages. be kind, not everyone can afford to help in the same way. but i do understand that the ame message can get a little annoying.

New Zealand got rocked pretty hard too, but know one's setting up relief funds for them. A freaking church was destroyed in their earthquake, and a pretty important one too. By some reporters, it has even been called, "One of the darkest days in new Zealand history". Has anyone offered them THEIR prayers? No.

Not to mention both earthquakes are on the EXACT SAME FAULT LINE.

And don't pray because its Japan. Pray, or donate, or express sympathy because they're HUMAN. Because we're human, and if it can happen to them, it can happen to us. I've made effort to donate to New Zealand, and Japan is next on my list.

Also, just because you THINK you can do is pray, that does not make it so. People can do more than they think, but ever just takes the easy way out and says "If i think realyyy hard, maybe this'll help." NEW FLASH. No ones asking you to donate your flippin liver. But sending a thought is the best you can do?

Now, for those of you who sincerely and truely care about the lives in general, and honestly have no money to spend, I say to you this:

How are you reading these words RIGHT now? Certainly not through thought. No, someone is paying some bill to get the electricity flowing through your house. Ask mom and dad, start a lemonade stand, TURN OFF YOUR LIGHTS. A nuclear reactor just went off over their. Energy can neither created, nor destroyed, so by saving some of ours, who knows. It'll make it easier over there. Shoot, make t-shirts, annoy people with facts, research ACTUAL ORGINIZATIONS THAT ARE NON-PROFIT (sorry, red cross ain't of 'em). Do something rather than defend yourslef on someone elses deviation. And if all yu can actually do is pray? Than you are the most honest person I know, and if you can't then those lies will catch up with you.

I hope all of you saying praying is "all i can do" are being 100% honest. "God doesn't like liars". (from some movie i saw, cant remember)

I agree with twees666. Every "Pray for Japan/Libya" picture without a prompt to donate for those is just for faves and attention.

AND WOAH. GRAGARGARGaerha. Those comments on this drive my crazy. I think nearly everyone who's actually able to post a comment got atleast 5-10$ or 5-10€ or whatever to donate. Don't be such douchebags. I'm a poor student and even I got 10 bucks to spend! >_____<

I have to add: If you're religious people and still keep sayin that just praying is the best solution then always remember the phrase "It's better to give than to receive".

Well, you know, how about go go do that. You obviously must have the power to do so, considering that you're putting us down. Some of us can't do anything but pray for them. So, if you don't like it, that's your problem. If you can do something to help the Japanese, go right ahead, but I can't and you telling me what I should and shouldn't do was a waste of time.

Let those with religion show their support in their own way. Let those with checkbooks and money support the things they want to. It is the intent, the motive, and the thought behind something that truly matters. A man can say "Pray for Japan" and mean it more than someone who says "Donate to Japan."

Good point. Though, I have to agree with *Tsuzune-chan that sometimes the only thing you can do is pray. I guess I'm trying to say that I see both point of views. Still, you have a really good point.

pumpkinhead90 [2011-03-11 23:57:54 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. I see people 'praying' whenever something tragic happens around Nashville or the World. I wonder if they 'pray' with their checkbook or not.

Tsuzune-chan [2011-03-11 23:45:54 +0000 UTC]

Not everyone can donate their time and/or money. Sometimes praying or sending good thoughts and hope is all someone can do.

I really agree with this one. : ) Some of us don't have money to donate at the moment, but keeping those less fortunate than us in our thoughts is all we can do until we CAN do something.

Tsuzune-chan In reply to TeakupFieldBerry [2011-03-12 17:30:27 +0000 UTC]

Yep! But make sure you help raise awareness so that people who can donate have a way to.

Marsmar In reply to Tsuzune-chan [2011-03-12 00:32:34 +0000 UTC]

Instead of praying, they should simply encourage others to help out. It would take the same amount of time to say "donate money to Japan" as it would to say "pray for Japan".

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tsuzune-chan In reply to Marsmar [2011-03-12 17:29:46 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. But praying is also a form of support. Though I agreed that, along with praying or sending good thoughts, that people should raise awareness.

Louchan In reply to Tsuzune-chan [2011-03-11 23:55:02 +0000 UTC]

That's understandable, and those people have to accept that they're useless in helping the people of Japan then.
But actually encouraging praying, like so many deviations are, is retarded.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Tsuzune-chan In reply to Louchan [2011-03-12 17:28:33 +0000 UTC]

Not necessarily. A little love can go a long way. Personally, I would rather know that someone out there is wishing me luck in getting through a crisis when they can't donate than no one wishing me luck or donating at all.
And no matter your opinion, I believe that you should allow certain people to mourn and help how they wish, as long as it's not destructive. The massive amount of "Pray for Japan" art may be angering you, but you're one person.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Louchan In reply to Tsuzune-chan [2011-03-13 19:44:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tsuzune-chan In reply to Louchan [2011-03-13 20:11:00 +0000 UTC]

...Yes, yes, whatever. You get my point that there's justification for praying for Japan. Let's leave it at that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

shadoweon In reply to Louchan [2011-03-12 13:18:01 +0000 UTC]

Its not "retarded". Some people are religious, I am christian myself but I don't say to pray I just wish the best of luck for all.

But I don't really like that people are being agressive towards people that can't donate but atleast tried to show their support.

I was getting so annoyed by those messages, even if they meant well, I was getting very tempted to make something like this myself.
"Praying" or "send them your thoughts" or "hope for the best" doesn't do shit. Actual action does.
