Description
His Holy Truthiness Saint-Colbert and his loyal flock of sheep.--
What to look for: Mount Rushmore, the bald Eagle, the shepherd's staff, the bible, "Bread and Circus" represented by bread and a Gladius (the Roman sword), the Wriststrong, "sweetness" (his gun), the halo is a $1 coin with the text "Holy Truthiness of America". The sheep are marked with the initials of some states.
History:
I did this piece originally for the Colbert portrait gallery contest, but I didn't follow the rule 100% because Colbert is supposed to be saluting (army-like). However, in my case, it wouldn't have made any sense, Colbert being a saint and holding the flag instead, and I thought that it might make a better piece anyway.
I submitted it a few weeks ago, and it hasn't shown up in their gallery, while other pieces have. So I am assuming that it was rejected.
Let it be a lesson for all: I didn't follow the rules, and it is their right and it was my decision.

the description doesn't hint at it, but this depiction feels rather sarcastic. Was that your intention? I'm rather ignorant of the context, not being an american, but knowing this detail would surely help me appreciate the artwork..

In a sense, it is sarcastic, as he's a shepherd being followed (blindly) by his (conservative) flock. Stephen Colbert plays a rather ignorant conservative Republican who gets his truth "from the guts" rather than facts. It often mimics the behavior of some rather extreme politicians in the US. However, his criticism is always turned against the very people he represents. It's very tongue in cheeks, can be sarcastic and very often, subtle and very intelligent. You need to watch a few shows to get the idea, I think, as I don't think words can do him justice.

Okay, so you didn't follow the rules...but if Stephen doesn't include this "self portrait" on his set then shame on him! I haven't seen anything that captures the shows feel better than this. Brilliant work!

Thanks. Well, I don't actually know if the rules weren't 100% followed. It didn't say that you could NOT change Colbert, just that he was already there so most of the work was already done. It was ambiguous, but I went with my gut (like he likes to say)...

Great work. Love the detail on the sheep, they look so sweet and peaceful. Also the warmth of the entire picture, and the lighting. It's just majestic and I love it.
