Description
Digital portrait practice. I also played around with the depth of field a bit.Posted because a friend said that it captured something of the character's essence. I also did a quick marker sketch recently which I think captures an aspect of the character, but didn't warrant posting on its own:
This description is a bit bare bones, because it's 2:00 AM. Not sure what else I could add, though.

I hesitate to write this because I'm not sure how to say this without sounding like a snob and I am nowhere near this good, but her eyes look too far apart to me. I don't think I've ever seen anyone with that much space between the inside corners of their eyes and it puts this squarely into uncanny valley territory for me.

No need to worry about sounding snobbish- you don't need to be an artist to know what a face looks like. I'm pretty sure you're right about the spacing of the eyes.

I do like the character and I hope to see a comic starring her and the rest of the crew someday. I know that I've faved a lot of your stuff because I like the style and the details you've got. Maybe you'll get the chance to return the favor someday.

The closest real-world approximation would probably be some kind of Japanese/Pacific islands mix. Though, since Novus Imperium takes place in its own universe (i.e. there is no Earth), I'm at liberty to assemble facial features, skin tone, hair color and texture, etc. based on what I think would look interesting or appealing. Because of this, many characters (Reina included) end up not lining up 1/1 with any real-world ethnicity.

She is human. Think Star Wars or Gears of War, there are humans, but there's no Earth in the setting.

I get ya, but humans do come from earth and her eyes are green and black, not really a human trait.

Reina's a cyborg- her eyes are cybernetic, not organic. The description of the image I linked further up in the comments (Reina (2015) ) sheds some light on that.
As for the no Earth thing, that's just part of the setting. In Novus Imperium, humanity's homeworld is a planet called Karic.

And looking at some of your previous work, I noticed that some of not all of her squad have the same eyes.
What's the story there?
