Guess who's been playing Monster Hunter?Khezu is probably my favorite wyvern, er psuedo-wyvern, uh...whatever. He's kind of a freak. He's just so...squishy and different and extremely frustrating to fight.
Here's some doodles of his whelp form...and an itty bitty one and a larva. Note the degenerative wings and legs and the creepy wiggling motion....
Oh, and the katakana says Furufuru Ashu, his Japanese name. I wonder what it means really....

I just opened up the Chemeleos Elder quests. But I haven't played it a while. It's one of those games where I'll be addicted to it for a few weeks and then stop playing for a bit.

I've poked around Pixiv and found this little cutie. Sooo much adorable fanart, makes me want to draw it. I never played the game.
Also, I haven't seen anyone put tags as furufuru ashu... Just furufuru.

Oddly enough, when I first translated his name I immediately thought of Furfur, the demon, but didn't see the connection. In my art books Khezu is listed as furufuru ashu. Perhaps 'ashu' refers to 'ashen' in that he is white. Red Khezu is sometimes called Blood Khezu in English-speaking MH circles.
Khezu is technically terrifying in the game; he eats you alive, has no eyes, and his body is almost gelatinous. But I agree, he's probably one of the cutest monsters when drawn chibi.

I was just thinking it makes sense that it's Furfur just because he's demon-like, although real Furfurs are depicted way differently, yeah? That makes sense, ashen for white, but iunnoe.
Oh, I'm sure! I've seen the more realistic fanart, but I'm a weird girl, and for some reason I just think it's so cute. Eyeless monsters are just a ++++++ in my "adorable category".

and im pretty sure furufuru ashu would translate to something like old old subspecies......idk that was the only thing that came up in this dictionary i use (it is very reliable and very good

I use Wakan (mostly a kanji dictionary but very useful nonetheless) and my array of dictionaries. lol I'll have to book mark that one though. Thanks.
But you have to look at the fact that it is in Katakana. Furuii does mean old but it is written in kanji, not katakana - which denotes a foreign word. 'Furu' in Japanese katakana means 'full', although 'ashu' does mean sub-species which would make sense in this case but it's usually written in kanji. To use 'furu' twice in a row can mean something that is VERY full, which would also make sense as Khezu appears to be quite bloated. My guess is that it means something like 'very full sub-species (of wyvern)'.

katakana is also used to denote onomatopeia.
And in this case, furufuru is reminescent of dokidoki, kurukuru, pikopiko etc...
So it might be related to something like that...

Learn something new everyday. I learned "ippai" as meaning "a lot". But it makes sense that it could mean "full" too. And yes, Japanese is full of words like that. Words that sound the same and mean different things. "Furu" also means "to fall", as in rain or snow falling. It all depends on how you write it.
