The obvious way in which I've improved is that I've learned to paint in a semi-realistic style. I have also admitted the need for a background in my art so that Kenshin is no longer floating in a formless void, and I have also started to actually research things, so that he is now holding his sword properly for the moment when he is about to draw it and his hakama and kimono resemble real ones slightly more than in the original.

What I still need to work on: anatomy. Oh, he looks good, until you look more closely and realize his head isn't sitting quite properly on his neck, and that his stance is weirdly unbalanced because his feet aren't under him., ironically something I managed to get correct in the original. XD And hair. *sigh* It's not the spiky bush Kenshin's wearing in the first picture, instead it has improved to be a tentacular mass. And because I made the lanterns too bright, the focal point is on them, instead of Kenshin's Battosai eyes as it ought to be. Ah well. I also need a better control of color. The original looks better in that regard, but that's only because I eyedroppered the colors from a screencap of the anime back then. I'm still better with black and white than color.
