Main City of Operations: Silver Ridge, VA

Personality:   Confident yet quiet.  Haley is a strong person, but not overbearing or arrogant.  She enjoys the quiet and often finds herself alone, buried nose deep in a book or jogging in a seculded trail.  She prefers the company of a few close friends over having many shallow relationships with many people.

Back Story:

Haley Reid is an accomplished medical scientist.  She has worked for several top companies and hospitals working on the cutting edge of medical research on cancer treatments.  One night while she was on a date with a rather particularly boring gentleman, she started thinking of how badly she wish she could just sink through the chair and floor and disappear from this horrible online date match.  "95% match...yeah right".  She thought to herself.  The longer he went on about the rigors of accounting errors and the "math behind fantasy sports", Haley's mind took her earlier thoughts and started to say what if you could change cellular density.  Her mind entertained herself for the remainder of the date, which sadly led the poor suitor into thinking she was interested in what he was saying.  Just as dessert arrived she had the thought "why not just change the density of specific cells and just lift them out of the patient?".  Her eyes widened and she finally joined back into the date.  She smiled an apologetic smile and apologized saying she had to get back to work, telling him that this just wasn't going to work and leaving as quickly yet politely as she could.  Haley hailed a taxi as she called her fellow researchers, but unlike her, they were having successful Friday night and didn't want to be bothered with a work call.

Finally arriving at the lab that night, Haley took off her fashionable jacket and traded it for a lab coat, kicked off her heels and slid on sterilized socks and went right to work.  She ran her calculations and ideas through the computer and ran multiple simulations all which were proving her hypothesis to be correct.  She saw the button flashing on the screen.  The one that said "perform live test".  Their system was so state of the art, when it had cleared all the tests on the computer, they could immediately perform a test on living tissue in the lab.  It was a button she never got to click on, because even when her theories before had been approved by the computer, one of her coworkers would think of something that might happen in the rarest of occassions, and then either place a hold on the trial, or would stop the test in its entirety.  The computer only told them if they could perform the test.  Not if they should.  The computer, while equipped with algorithims that were often times scarily close to A.I., it didn't have intuition or a conscience.  This is where Haley should stop.  She put her hands on the top of her head and rocked back and forth in her swivvel chair.  Weighing the pros and cons of running the trial so soon and without anyone else to check over her work.  "It can wait..." she said aloud to herself trying to convince herself to be satisfied until Monday morning.  But there was that part of her brain that was itching to press that button.  She wasn't sure if it was her confidence, her eagerness, or sadly a bit of a childish attitude of never getting to press the damn button, but Haley shortly found her hand on the mouse and clicked the flashing icon.  "What's the worse that happens?  I ruin a bit of tissue and waste some chemicals."  She refuted herself.

Haley watched in awe through the incredibly thick viewing slot into the control room as robotic arms grabbed a piece of human tissue that had cancer cells inside it and as a symphony of instruments, syrenges and tools danced around the test subject injecting and flashing it with bursts of various radiations.  It almost looked artistitc...no...magical.  That was when she noticed that there was a quickly growing glowing energy imminating from inside the skin tissue.  Her eyes grew wide as her wonder started to turn to fear.  "No, no, no!" She said as she ran over to the computer controlling the test.  But it was too late.  By then all the alarms had gone off and she frantically entered kill commands to the machine but it had passed the point of no return.  From behind her she saw an unimaginably burst of light followed by waves of invisible energy pour through the wall and knock her to the floor and out for just a few moments.  Haley stood up and straightened her clothes before picking up her glasses and putting them back on her face.  Her vision was still slighting blurry but she saw the screens on the computers were off.  "Oh...please please please don't be dead!" She said as she frantically tapped at the keyboard.  Shortly the computers came back to life and she looked around noticing there was no damage and no signs of her accident literally blowing up in her face.  She activated the clean up procedure and watched as a robotic arm in the control room sterilized and removed the liquid goop that used to be her test subject.  "Damn it!" she said as she bowed her head and gently knocked her forehead against the door a few times.  "I was so sure!"  She sighed and yawned.  Looking at a clock she noticed it said nearly five am.  Accepting the fact that it was a good idea, and just needed more research she could try again.  But that would wait until Monday.  Right now she needed rest.

Once home, Hayley unbuttoned her blouse and tossed it towards the back of her favorite reading chair but widely missed as the silky top plopped on the floor several feet away.  Stumbling towards the bedroom, Haley just waved her arm towards the miss in defeat and grunted "later".  She stripped as she groggily made her way to bed.  She placed her cell phone on the corner of the table next to her bed, ignoring it falling onto the floor as she flopped down in her underwear and pulled the squishy blanket up over her shoulder.  She felt her heavy eye lids softly close.  "It was a good try, Haley." She muttered to herself as she felt herself already drifting off.  The next thing Haley knew, her cell phone was going off.  It seemed louder than usual so she reached her arm out towards the sound without opening her eyes, just trying to make the noise shut up.  She grabbed the phone and answered it groggily.  It was her supervisor.  She and Haley were on really good terms and while she could hear frustration in her boss' tone, she knew it was mainly concern.  "Oh, thank goodness!  Haley, are you ok?"  "Hmm?  yeah, I'm fine...look I can explain what I was doing last night..." Haley started.  Her boss cut her off.  "Last night?  Haley.  We've been trying to call you for FOUR DAYS.  Haley's eyes sprung open as she exclaimed "WHAT?" and tried to sit up, but she didnt make it more than a few inches without hitting her head on a hard piece of wood.  That was when Haley finally noticed where she was.  She was under her bed.  Pillow, sheet, blanket and all.  It was if someone had found her sleeping, lifted her, removed the bed, placed her on the floor then the bed right over her.  Stunned Haley laid there confused until she finally spoke completely bewildered.  "I...uhhh...I'm gonna need to call you back in a bit.  Something...Something's come up."

Powers:

Density Control - Apparition can temporarily change the density of objects that she is touching as well as her own molecular density.  This allows her to lift/move previously unmovable objects to a normal person or to hit much harder.

Phasing/Intangibility - Apparition can cause her body and her clothes to maintain coherency while allow her to pass through objects or vice/versa.

Flight - Apparition can hover/fly but not at any great speeds.  She has approached Mach1 but it caused her to pass out and cause a temporary loss of control of her powers

Weaknesses:

While she can phase through almost anything, she has found that some of the most dense metals on earth she has either great difficulty or zero ability to phase through or change their own density.  Osmium and Platinum she is incapable of adjusting or phasing through.  Gold, Tungsten and Plutonium she can phase through/adjust their desnity buy at great strain and pain.

Humanity - Other than her abilities, she can be injured just like a normal human can.  She has learned the hard way how to be incredibly fast at phasing and controlling certain areas to allow projectiles through, but sometimes she's not fast enough and has been shot/stabbed before.

Great bio and art. Always love seeing a heroine with phase/intangibility powers. Can't wait to see her in action!

Very interesting lady you have here and I like her back story, hopefully her boss understood her 4 day absence, hehe.

Curious how she explains/heals from the getting shot part when she isn't so fast with her phasing?

Yeah, she's got some explaining to do, that is for sure.  hehe

Yeah, hopefully she can keep that down to a minimum and I'm sure she'll need someone to help her care for her wounds when she's learning/too slow

I wonder if she is just a hero or if she is the sneaky spy type.

Definitely a heroine, but she's more of a tactical/stealth type than a right in your face brawler
