Description This was the last test sculpt I did for GW before deciding to focus and concentrate on other pieces and companies.

Unfortunately my second test sculpt I never got back from Gw...

I made a tactical blunder with this piece and made the armature up as I went when I should have sorted out all the proportions and posing from the start. A good armature will look both accurate and dynamic even without and green stuff on it.

Total height 32mm, sculpted in scale with GW Catachan jungle fighters.

Hope you hear back from them soon, if not too late?

This is a great GS sculpture, especially for the muscles and his boots. I like your approach to a combination of a combat shotgun to a rifle.

You're about 17 months too late, but thanks anyways.

Your greenstuff work is fantastic though, I really think the musculature is beyond question on this one.

Proportioning was a little off, it's more clear if you look at the mini from the back.

But I'm glad you like it.

I am a big Catachan fan to be honest. The whole 'Rambo' feel has always held a great place when it comes to movies and games. I actually want to ask, if you do model/character commissions beyond your actual scheduled work?

I'm afraid not, I tried commissions in the past, but it didn't work, I just sculpt for the occasional company now, which works out much better, especially as I have at least nine sculpts to complete on my list at the moment.

Was worth a shot to ask at least! I just don't trust my own skill for the project at hand, and have been looking for some one else who is either handy with green stuff or a master conversion artist. If you perhaps know some with that skill who might be willing to take commissions I would sure appreciate it.

You're best bet is probably the guys on troll forged miniatures, they're good with dealing with commissions and quick to respond.

If you want to put a lot of money in the project then I'd recommend looking on CMON.

I will check out these Troll Forged Miniatures people, I am not a fan of the CMON people as they do tend to be rather expensive. And now that I have looked... Wow, they are fantastic. Thank you for the suggestion!

Armature mistake withstanding, this is still a great figure, and certainly one I'd be proud to have in my Catachan army, if I had one. The gun is a little confusing though; what's it meant to be?

The-Build In reply to line-melte [2012-04-09 18:49:06 +0000 UTC]

It's an imperial shot gun.

Aha, the good ol' slightly nonsensical GW weapon design sense. It confuses because in a shotgun like that the ammo is in the tube under the barrel, so the box magazine makes no sense. But then, GW aren't known for highly thought-out weapon designs...

No they are not.

Which is why I make my own stuff up.

I suppose it only really matters to a gun geek like me.

Making stuff up!

I LOVE MAKING STUFF UP, I'VE BEEN DOING IT LOADS RECENTLY.

By the way, thanks for all the help with the Krox, he's getting there slowly but your sketches have been a huge help. On the other hand, I've somehow ended up with THREE other Lizardman sculpts in my sculpting queue, I blame you entirely for this...*

*Ok so maybe Oxayotl doesn't count as I always intended on sculpting him.

YEY!

No problem, it was an interesting learning curve. And I'm interested as to how you've managed to end up with so many lizards to sculpt.

Wellllllll.....

Avatars of war = increase in ego

Oxayotl because why the heck not, especially as I managed to ruin the last one with a green ink. ¬¬

Third one because awesome artwork is awesome. [link]

Fourth one because GW are very very very bad at sculpting dinos and dino proxys. So sculpting a Salamander variant.

Those are all good reasons, so get sculpting! And I agree with you about the GW dinos; they seem to try making them too 'monstery', and they end up looking a little silly, like they're trying too hard to make them 'cool'....
