It was how you applied for a job with GW, you did a test sculpt, copying one of their exiting minis.

I've always been curious how the GS rim over the "bunny ears" is made.

The-Build In reply to Kharmazov [2013-12-28 08:07:49 +0000 UTC]
There's a few things you have to do, the first is use more yellow in the mix to make it Β bit stickier.
I broke it down, so I did just the outside of the rim first, let that dry, then did all the horizontal lines (it's important to only do lines which aren't touching any other wet lines).

Man you did a great job on this model.Β Sorry you didn't get this one selected.Β Your sculpting work with the green is awesome.
What did you do to make those smaller points in the face of the shield?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
The-Build In reply to CaptinCorn [2013-09-07 07:57:12 +0000 UTC]
You put a small spec of green stuff on the shield and then use a clay shaper to pull on it from four different angles.

I only ever experienced working with retail for GW, quickly grew tired of that due to their changing policy.
As for "GW models" that means big hands and feet, I follow concept art too, it's how I started, but the same problems cropped up, got rather annoyed with theΒ hypocrisy.
Working at head office could be fun, but it's far from well paid, it might not seem like it but you're better off free lance.

GlauG [2013-03-13 08:55:40 +0000 UTC]
Looking back at this piece again, I have to ask; how do you sculpt the studded details like the ones on the shield? I find it really awkward to do unless I superglue the GS to the piece to keep it in place while I shape it, and that's not always ideal.
π: 0 β©: 1
The-Build In reply to GlauG [2013-03-13 16:28:29 +0000 UTC]
I use slightly more yellow in the mix to make it more sticky and then hold it near a hot lamp (when it gets warmer, it gets more sticky). then I shape it.

Hey man do you use color shapers? If not what else do you use?

The-Build In reply to sk8er-guy123456 [2012-07-02 06:27:49 +0000 UTC]
I use whatever I need and delivers the desired result.
And yes I use clay shapers.

That is a good Green! I take it that it is a mix of BrownStuff and GreenStuff?? I would love to be able to sculpt like this! But I mainly work on converting tanks with Plasticard and that.

The-Build In reply to Aslomov [2012-03-28 18:43:18 +0000 UTC]
No mix, just green stuff.
If you want to sculpt though, my best suggestion is just to go for it.

Well there's areas like the hair from the skull and details like belt buckles which are not sharp enough.

What are you doing up so early, or late, I can never remember which?

TKMillerSculpt In reply to The-Build [2012-03-03 09:05:26 +0000 UTC]
Late. Working on intricate little accessory parts. Going bling doing that. Easily the most detailed, involved accessory I've ever done. I'll be outsourcing crap like this to Oliver Brig from here on out. Stooopid accessory.

It makes it a little easier to swallow when you realize we're mad.
And they only leave the straight-jacket off so we can sculpt.

I kept eating too much clay when they tried that with me and the orderlies got tired of removing the 'blockages'.
π: 0 β©: 1
The-Build In reply to TKMillerSculpt [2012-03-03 19:17:03 +0000 UTC]
So I need to eat more green stuff?
I'll give that a try.
π: 0 β©: 1
TKMillerSculpt In reply to The-Build [2012-03-03 19:55:28 +0000 UTC]
Not really. As I said, the orderlies weren't really happy about dealing with the blockages, so they weren't particularly gentle, and there wasn't any snuggle time afterward either. Of course, I now have the ball-gag to contend with too.
