Description About a year ago, I asked if I could paint her, and today I finally got around to it. Unfortunately, she doesn't hang around DeviantArt much anymore, so I don't know whether she'll get to see the finished work - she's even removed all of her deviations.
Anyway, today was a teaching day and I taught Stella a bit about painting monochrome portraits. She painted Brad Pitt and I painted the lovely Elaihr. This is watercolour, 9" by 12" - another of my series of portraits of fellow DeviantArt members. ^_^

Hello, I'm Isis
this water-colour painting is fantastic; the yellow blue monochromatic colour-scheme's excellent, and I love the fact that is portrait is not in a face-on school photo position. This is in Very good taste. Its unfortunate this artist removed all her pieces, was Elaihr a good artist? At least she has a great pose.

I was kind of wondering if you could critique this painting I did, it was a final project for art class, called 'Inuendo' with acrylic on canvus. It will be very appreciated if you can

Thanks

Very beautiful! I sure hope she gets to see the finished product! How lovely to have your image painted by such a wonderful artist!

Thank you! ^^ She sent me a note a few weeks ago saying how much she liked it, and that really felt good. I'd wanted to paint her for a long time but I think I was a little intimidated by the masses of blonde hair - blonde hair is pretty hard in watercolour.

"Exploded". You know, I'd personally be thrilled if my hair looked exploded - it looks like it got exploded right off my head right now.
Thanks! I thought the oranges went pretty well with her because she's so blonde - yellows just don't show up very well.

Aw, thank you so much! I did finally hear from her, and she seemed to be pretty happy with it. It's a shame she's left because she was always so friendly and nice, but I guess the "real world" was calling...

Thanks very much! I like this one, too - I've never used these colours before, and kind of like the way they stand out. ^^

I've been pretty quiet, too. I sent you an e-mail yesterday saying that I was planning to close the gallery, but Pepper talked me out of it (she's worried that I wouldn't actually work if I was at home all the time). So we'll just have to figure out how to keep it going.

Thank you so much! It's a little unusual for me to go so brilliant on the colour, but I thought she kind of called for it, really. I sent her a note, but she's been offline for almost three months now, and I've lost her address in the computer crash...

Great mastery of the paint. It flows beautifully. It reminds me of the painting in "Ever After" by Leonardo Da Vinci of Drew Berrymore's character. Awesome job.

oh so pretty! watercolor is such a hard medium- but you seem to be able to control it so well

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

theancientofdays In reply to makitaki [2008-12-28 18:18:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! I had a really hard time with watercolour when I started out because it wanted to "do it's own thing". I think half the battle is just in controlling it within its own perametres. For work that requires detail, I've found that working on dry paper helps a lot. ^^

makitaki In reply to theancientofdays [2008-12-28 18:21:56 +0000 UTC]

i think watercolors can be such an amazing medium- with such unique results compared to other paints. unfortunately i have never been able to get it to do what i want- and it ends up a muddy mess thats why i'm especially impressed when i see great watercolor artists

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

theancientofdays In reply to makitaki [2008-12-29 11:15:31 +0000 UTC]

I make plenty of muddy messes, too. I try not to paint wet-on-wet very often to avoid it. I usually work in "sections" of the painting, allowing one area to dry while I start on another. It seems to work okay.

Thank you very much! This one was unusual because I generally just paint monochrome work right out of the tube. But here, I mixed burnt sienna, red, and yellow all together and discovered that the colours seperated pleasantly while I was using them. It was really kind of fun.
