Walking out with the eventers Thom led Moon through the fog. Looking ahead of him Opal and Jamie had their hands full with four horses between them.
Jamie led his red headed mare Rán who was trying to bite the stallion he led. Knight to his credit was ignoring the mare and had his ears flicked in Opal’s direction as she kept Knight’s excitable children in check. Seaspray and Spiro were both jigging around Opal, heads high looking out through the mist of the morning in excitement.
The three of them alternated between holding extra horses and Jamie and Opal took their horses through the trot up and vet check required for their participation in the three day event.
Thom stood with Moon and Spiro as he watched Opal jog alongside Seaspray, the mare’s light trot springing her over the ground. He should have brought Rei along for the exposure before his novice class at noon but the young stallion hadn’t finished his feed and Nat had asked if they could leave a horse at the yards so Ani wouldn’t spend his entire morning screaming after his travel companions.
As Opal and Seaspray finished up their trot ending the inspections for their little group Thom figured he may as well give himself and moon a bit of a warm up and handed Spiro’s lead back to Opal.
Clucking to Moon Thom urged the mare into a quick walk away from the others, turning he kissed at the mare and she moved smoothly into a floaty trot as Thom jogged alongside her. She was looking in great shape and he was looking forward to stepping back into the competitive arena with her once again.
