Description
This piece was finished about a year back. The mermaids are watching the Battle of Copenhagen (Slaget pΓ₯ Reden) of 1801. The fight was about the question of Denmark's neutrality during the Napoleon war. Intimidated by the Danish-Norwegian seapower, the British engaged with the Danes on April 2. The British were the victors (barely)
After a few timid tryouts with Copic markers, this was my first 'big' illustration with them. I was absolutely addicted, and still am.

Wow, the scenery here is really impressive. I feel like the composition on the bottom half with the mermaids and nearby seagulls could be it's own picture, as well as the top half with the fleet of boats taking fire. Very well done

I'd worry about a stray ball if I were one of the sea-folk, but in a way it does make sense to watch the battle on the surface where you could SEE what was happening and how much of a threat it would pose... and, I suppose, if you were kindly, to help those in the water. Β Very good depth of composition, nice sense of a naval melee, your havefruen are marvelous... a Favorite!

There was one battle by the bay of Copenhagen, that the people of the city actually picnicked for. They just went out, whole families to see it with lunch and tea. It might be this one, but I'm not sure...

Well, the battle went on for hours, and it was quite close to the shore. So it is entirely possible to get a good look of the bay from the harbor area. It was a favorite for recreational trips for the bourgeoisie.
