This is what happens when I'm re-dorkening with Animorphs, staying up until 3 AM, and hopped up on cranberry juice. Don't ask.DAMN I LOVE GAFINILAN AND MERTIL SO MUCH.
My heart belongs to brave, dying, handicap-outcast, doomed gay andalites. THEY'RE, LIKE, SHAKESPEAREAN.And Finding Nemo.
This madness came from the Animorphs LJ community, where I uploaded some G/M drabbles, which were unabashed tearjerkers (like they... are...), when someone said they really needed some love and lulz, "as fluffy as baby lambs."
And I've always seen Mertil (maybe because we know NEXT TO NOTHING about him and he's totally up to reader interpretation) as being the lighter, more optimistic one, who isn't intimidated by Gafinilan's HONOR DUTY DIE WITH DIGNITY bluster, and can make him crack a smile. Or at least look over with one stalk eye.
By being completely dork-retard-adorable, and channeling Dory from Finding Nemo.
I like the idea of andalites having white-ish hair like Andorians. TREKKIE NERD HO. And therefore, Gafinilan gets sexy stubble.

Since Gaffy needs to have fun, he does in THAT fic I wrote. A bit. XD He plays with Mertil and the watering hose after Mertil squirts him. And at some point Erek teaches him how to play poker.

And YES I NEED TO DO THIS. They'd make the most kickass team in the universe and totally have a BURNING WARRIOR COMRADE BROTHER-IN-ARMS connection, it'd be awesome. (Why can I see Lex just fantarding SO HARD over Andalites in general and just being OMG TELEPATHIC ALIENS, I LAV, BONDBONDBOND)

One bit in book 40 that I remember the best is when they're tailing Gafinilan in his human morph and he gets a call, then hauls ass back home. Marco thinks it's Visser 3 and Gafinilan's working with him, and Tobias is "but maybe it's about Mertil.

But nooooo. And that's the worst part, that it was SO CLEARLY set up, and SO OBVIOUSLY going to be a continuing storyline, to just never come back to it is just - what? It doesn't make sense at all. Fine, fine, it was ghostwritten, but still, it was a wonderful addition to the story and they could have added so much.
Yeah, my fics deal with that too. Love vs. Tradition is a major theme. I dunno if LJ is blocked on school computers, but I'll see if I can dig up some linkage for ye!

Yeah...I don't mind a lot of the ghostwritten books, but sometimes when it was ghostwritten, it seemed like some of the stuff was ignored.
Like in one, I swear Cassie mentioned a nephew who loved Telly Tubbies.
