Description Let's rise to the skies, because it's now time to talk about Up.  Up is a masterpiece of a film created by Pixar in 2009, and yeah, I can totally see why it has so many fans.  It's about an old man using his house as a blimp to travel to Paradise Falls and along the way, makes some new friends and learns to leave things in the past, which is one of the most powerful messages ever told by Pixar ever.  And I feel the time is right to tell you all my top 5 favourite Up characters.  As usual, these are my personal opinions, so don't be too mad if any of your favourites didn't make it.  Adventure is out there!

5: Ellie Fredrickson - Starting off this list is Carl's childhood sweetheart/wife, Ellie.  When we're first introduced to Ellie, she was shown to be quite a rebellious kid with a love of adventure, similar to Carl, which made them so perfect for each other.  As adults, they got married and they were such a loving couple.  I kind of felt sorry for her when she learned she couldn't have kids, and was deeply saddened when she passed away from old age.  It was especially tough for Carl, who felt he failed to accomplish her dreams.  In the end, it's revealed she saw her married life with Carl as an adventure, and even left behind the words "thanks for the adventure, now go have a new one", which motivated Carl to move on.

4: Kevin - You'd think that judging by the name Russell gave this bird, that Kevin's a male.  But it's revealed that Kevin happens to be a mother, making her a female.  LOL!  Anyway, Kevin is a rare bird that had been pursued by Charles Muntz and his dogs for many years.  I love how quickly she bonded with Russell due to his love for wildlife, and even has a love for chocolate, which came in handy during the film's climax.  In the end, Kevin was reunited with her babies, and Carl even let her keep his cane as a memento.

3: Russel - Russell is a Junior Wilderness Explorer, who wishes to gain as many explorer badges in order to be promoted to a Senior Wilderness Explorer.  By the time we first see him in the film, he only needs the "Assisting the Elderly" badge in order to do so, which is why he ends up going with Carl on his journey to Paradise Falls.  And while Carl originally found him annoying due to how hyperactive he is, he was shown to be quite capable and helpful towards him, and was such a nature lover, which was why he was able to bond quickly with Kevin and help her get to her babies.  In the end, Carl eventually warmed up to him, and started to see him as the grandson he never had.

2: Dug - Oh, come on!  You all knew Dug would make it on this list eventually.  Why would he not?  Not only is he one of the most popular characters from Up, but he's also a dog, and I love dogs.  What's cool is his collar that helps him talk to humans.  He was originally owned by Charles Muntz among many others to help him capture a rare bird, but unlike all the other dogs, Dug is friendly and was able to bond rather quickly towards Carl, calling him "master" more than once, which is why he ended up helping Carl save Kevin and I loved how he was able to defeat Alpha, that was awesome.  Plus, I loved seeing him star in that mini-series, "Dug Days", where he now lives with Carl in their own home.  He is such a cute character, that I would have easily put him in the number one spot, if there wasn't one character I loved more.

1: Carl Fredrickson - Yep, you heard me, the protagonist of a franchise is once again my favourite from that franchise.  While Carl may seem like a typical grumpy old man who wishes to be alone, there's actually more to it than that.  As a child, he wanted to be an explorer like his idol, Charles Muntz, and bonded with Ellie due to having the same passion.  He had such a loving relationship with her, and when she died, Carl fell into depression, which is quite relatable to some people who lose those who are close to them.  Eventually, he decides to tie several balloons to the top of his house, and use it as a blimp to fly to paradise falls, and along the way, he makes new friendships with Russell, Kevin and Dug, meet up with Charles Muntz, who has sadly gone crazy, and upon arriving at Paradise Falls, he chooses to move on with his life, even helping Russell bring Kevin back to her babies.  Carl is without a doubt one of the best-written protagonists from any Pixar film I've ever seen, which is why he's my favourite character from Up.

And there you have it, my top 5 favourite Up characters.  Feel free to let me know in the comments who your favourite Up characters are and until next time, hurue!
