Description
Lesser Ratpig
Scientific name: Pachyrattus scrofa
Other Names: Ratboar
Ancestor: Brown Rat
Diet: Roots, tubers, fungus, carrion
Habitat and range: North American and European plains and forests
One of the more common herbivores of North America (especially in the northeast) are the hog-sized Ratboar. They stand out as one of the only rats of this family that can be classified as omnivores, dipping into carrion when available. They are not very fast, and dumb as hell, and while they have a bite, it's not top quality. However, what they do have is numbers; living in large herds of up to 180 individuals, with a litter of fourteen piglets ensures the species will always be numerous enough to provide protection. Even if that protection is dozens of dead herdmates feeding your predators before they can get to you.
