Description

Low-bodied ratpig

  • Scientific name: Muriporcus ictiscrofa

  • Other names: Ferret hog

  • Ancestor: Brown rat

  • Diet: Roots, grass, fungus, tubers

  • Habitat and range: Eastern-European forests and marshes

They aren't strong. They aren't fast, They aren't smart, and lord knows they don't have safety in numbers because they live solitary lives. But there is one thing the pig-sized Ferret hog has on its side (quite literally); a whole mess o fat. The Ferret hog has notoriously tough skin, with rough and thickly matted fur, and with its mane of thick, coarse fur acting as a barrier against attack, it can be quite hard to cut its skin to fatal levels. Even though the mighty beaks of the Tyguro can tear through their leathery hide, a wall of blubber shields their organs from prying jaws. Of course, no animal is invincible, and these animals bellies are far easier to tear through and get at the insides, but any bit of protection counts. Additionally, the thick fat keeps them fed in droughts and harsh winters where little vegetation can be found, a handy tool in the unpredictable wildlands north of the Danube.
