Description

Rungler

  • Scientific name: Tapitherium tapis

  • Other names: none

  • Ancestor: Brazilian tapir

  • Diet: Grass, leaves

  • Habitat and range: East-Antarctic desert and savannas

The Rungler is big and kinda ugly. Their leathery skin is covered in wrinkles and sparsely dotted with coarse hair, and their snout is pretty awkward in appearance. However, they are quite big and fairly dangerous. The leathery, wrinkled skin is an adaptation shared with other large herbivores such as rhinos and elephants which must survive in hot environments, adding extra surface area without adding too much mass, and providing creases to trap moisture. Their bizarre nose is what happens when a trunked animal is in the process of losing said trunk, but isn't quite there yet. The fleshy nose and upper-lip are great tools for grasping leaves and other vegtabular goodness, and similar to their tapir ancestor, will flare up as a flehmen response to detect pheromones. Additionally, they will expose the gums and teeth in times of stress to deter predators with those nasty-ass teeth. They're vocalizations also sound like farts.
