Description Tara Watts speaking! Here after school, missions or whatever, to explore the wilderness, and find all manner of anomalous and unusual creatures residing throughout the world. Or beyond, if the situation calls for it. I kinda sorta got a Cease and Desist from an "Azititech Renraku", because apparently I've been using the term "dragon" incorrectly. As well as other little revisions I gotta make in my notes before publishing. So I will do that.

Meanwhile, here's something closely related! A catalog detailing some species of Gryphons, which are actually NOT hybrid animals, but a feathered relative of Dragon-Kind that evolved only a few tens of million years ago. Practically the Duck-Billed Platypuses of the Dragon World, because nobody thought of them as natural creatures until recently. And all of these species are confirmed to be genetically related to each other! Check it out!

--------------------------

Hieracosphinx - A species of Gryphon that lives in Egypt. These creatures are actually entirely unrelated to Sphinxes, and are only named so because of their astonishing similarity. However, unlike Sphinxes, they are NOT sapient, being only slightly more intelligent than other animals at their very best. They are solitary and territorial, but were frequently cowed into being beasts of burden during ancient times.

Hippalectryon - A species of Gryphon that lives in Greece. A creature that's a bizarre mix of awkward and majestic, they normally appear very scrawny, like horses with the features of chickens. However, the males in particular are endowed with red crests and inflatable sacs in their nostrils and throat. This makes a bellowing sound used to attract mates, establish a pecking order among other males and frighten away predators who stray too close.

Minoan Gryphon - A species of Gryphon that lives almost exclusively on Crete. They are among the rarest in the world, being bred to be pets and status symbols for the elite in ancient Minoan Society. Whether or not they have wings, they are completely flightless, and very tame compared to other Gryphons. They had almost gone extinct after the Eruption of Thera 3500 years ago devastated Minoan Civilization, and these Gryphons' population.

Keythong - A species of Gryphon that lives in England. They are completely flightless. However, their bones protrude outwards as spikes, they are larger than most Gryphon species, far more aggressive, and they hunt in packs. To make up for their lack of airborne mobility, they are VERY fast on foot, being able to run up to 55 mph. They are seen as a kind of missing link between dragons and gryphons, even having horns and a venomous bite to prove it.

Peryton - A species of Gryphon that lives in Rome. They are known to travel in great flocks, casting shadows upon the areas they fly over. They are also among the most dangerous, specifically for their tendency to attack in mobs if the flock is disturbed, goring those who get in their way. They become even MORE deadly during mating season, when the males become hormonal, and even more prone to hostile behavior than normal. Do NOT take these creatures lightly.

Wolpertinger - A species of Gryphon that lives in Germany. Specifically, the forests of Bavaria. They are one of the few species known for burrowing, using their horns to dig out dens, and fend off predators. Many species of Wolpertinger live in Bavaria, although when explorers first found them, they were thought to be nothing more than taxidermy hoaxes. Now it is known that one can draw them out for capture, by either smelling like wine (they love eating fermented fruits), or lactating (they inexplicably enjoy the taste of milk).

Enfield - A species of Gryphon that lives in Ireland. This species has spent the last several hundred years coming back from the brink of extinction. They were already rare to begin with due to limited resources, but were frequently hunted by medieval men for their hides, and for sport. They had gone extinct in the wild, but domestic strains being kept in menageries and royal gardens had ensured their survival. They are still quite rare to this day.

Owlbear - A species of Gryphon that lives in Sweden. This species is actually very closely related to the Wolpertinger, and are among the largest species of Gryphon in the world. They live in caves, or dens that they create themselves, and hunt solitary, or as mated pairs. They are almost exclusively nocturnal. Despite how large they are, they are actually quite stealthy, thanks to their paws being covered in down which muffles their steps, and often having dark feather colors for camouflage.

What about the Cockatrice, Hippogriff, and Trico? (To be fair, that last one might not even count if it isn't covered under a different name already at least. )

- Ah yes, the Cockatrice! Figured it was actually more or less a species of tiny feathered wyvern, considering they have no forelimbs. Just two wings and two legs!

- Hippogriff, ran out of room. Plus, tried to get the more obscure species in there instead.

- Trico, I'm actually not sure what that is, but I'll go look it up!

Look up The Last Guardian for Trico. I guess it wasn't actually a thing before that game like I previously thought.

What about Owlslothbears?

Ah yes! The Labiated Owlbear! They have wings, but are flightless, so they drape over their bodies like big, feathery capes. Not to mention, these guys are BIG. As big as prehistoric Ground Sloths in fact! But pretty damn lazy.

Not to mention, they LOVE eating giant insects.

Well know I just want to make a million different variations on the Owlbear. XD

They truly are the perfect mythological beast.

I think somebody actually made a few already! i.redd.it/2ayvef6zjxqy.jpg

Might put up a poll to see what other kinds of creatures they'd like Tara to investigate.

Hmm, maybe some lesser known beasts like African cryptids.
