Nora was born in America to a prestigious family, Father an American CEO and Mother a Japanese celebrity ballet dancer. Together with her twin brother she grew up wanting for nothing, yet for some reason was never satisfied. As she grew older Nora began to see it was because nothing given is what she truly wanted. Dance lessons, private tutors, expensive clothes and jewelry, “friends” that circled and watched her like vultures...none of it made her happy. Before long Nora began avoiding these things, escaping to the only place neither of her parents would go: the gardens. There Nora found joy and peace of mind with the an elderly groundskeeper, and ruined many a nice dress digging around in the dirt to help the kindly elder lady. Some of her fondest memories are planning fake vacations just so she and the elder could run off to the countryside. There they would take their prized vegetables and put them into shows, sometimes winning, other times not. But for Nora those memories are all the prize she needed.

Nora was eventually found out, but by then she was old enough and stubborn enough to not let her parents deter her. The elder was not so lucky and fired, but that didn't stop Nora from visiting her anyway. It didn't stop her from working in the gardens either, despite the added pressure her parents were putting on her. “Nora, you'll never find a Masters by digging in the dirt”, “you're filthy! Clean up, a suitor is coming over and I'll not have you looking like an animal at the dinner table”. It was all too much. But Nora was never afraid of lashing back out, standing firmly by what she knew she wanted to do. There was a science to vegetable growth, and even if she would never lead a corporation or dance on stage, she could still contribute!

But Nora's rebellion wasn't the only, or even main, stressor on her parents. Abe was obedient, but lacked a back bone. As an heir he'd only be a figure head, and keeping the corporation in their name seemed an impossible task. Their parents marriage was reaching a breaking point, having been unhappy and crumbling for years. Only business and money had kept them together for so long, but even that wasn't enough in the long run. Father began seeing other women, and in retaliation Mother began spending all his money. Divorce is imminent, the press would say, profiting off her family's deteriorating state of affairs. Nora hated it, and when the divorce finally came things went from bad to worse: the family split in two, Nora and her twin Abe separated.

Nora ended up with her mother, moving back to Japan to live with the family she had there. The atmosphere was tense for months, and Nora wasn't sure why. She was shocked to learn it was because mother had run off to marry her father and followed her own dreams of being a dancer. She was supposed to grow up to manage the large and prosperous Onsen the family owned! Hurt by her mother's actions when it came to her own dreams, Nora grew even more distant from her. Before long the family began to pressure Nora into the task instead, but Nora firmly stood her ground from the beginning...and made a deal, at the age of 15.

“I’ll take over the Onsen, sure. But until I do, I'll be doing my gardening and hydroponics work.”

The negotiations we're a little rocky at first, but eventually they came to an agreement: Nora would be allowed to pursue her passion, so long as she also began learning how to properly manage an Onsen. If she ever failed in her duties to the family, any funding she received would be taken away, and she would be on her own. Nora was not totally satisfied, it felt as if she'd only been given a longer chain, but progress was progress. This deal was better than anything her parents had done. And maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't be holding up her end of the deal in the long run anyway. She'd always been the family disappointment, why change now?

Almost three years later Nora is living in her own apartment in the town of Yokozawa, and just recently transferred to Hajimari. For the most part it was for the bigger space to work on her garden, but there was also the history of the school. A once prestigious school fallen to near ruin after an “incident”? Sounded perfect. And this rumor of the fountain at the abandoned old school house that could grant wishes...Nora had never believed strongly in anything but her own power, but she wanted to explore the old building anyway. Might as well see what all this wishing business is about.
