It is true that spotted hyenas(including the cave species) that lived in clans. Females ruled the clan, because they are bigger, stronger, high-lived, and deadlier than males. Even lower-ranking females ruled the higher-ranking males. It is a science fact. Not only that, hyenas are more closely related to cats, rather than dogs.

Why, yes I did. I watched a documentary exclusively about hyenas on Nat Geo Wild. Also, if a female has 4 cubs, the first born always kills the last born, or the runt of the litter, if you will, with their needle sharp teeth. And yes, I knew they were closely related to cats, dispute the fact that it strongly resembled a dog.
