it should be readily available at a stockist or online. as for construction....look out,it,s a BEAST! i had to do a lot of structural reinforcing internally with some sprue and sheet styrene,as well as correct and compensate for a lot of warpage of larger parts and fit problems,as well as thin wall thikness and joints/seams. most of the cement used was industrial-grade LocTite Super Bonder cyanoacrylate for quick and strong bonds and a lot of autobody filler followed by wetsanding and surface polishing of multiple coats of primer before the final white topcoat could be applied. all paint used was Tamiya TS-series lacquer decanted from the spraycans and applied by airbrush. my primer was,as i recall,a mixture of gloss aluminum and flat white to make a silver-grey to cover the surfaces and lightproof the plastic,as well as make a monochromatic surface to apply the gloss white. decals were applied and a final coat of Tamiya TS-13 gloss clear applied to seal them permanently. i hope this info will be of use to you in your endeavour....Happy Modelling!

Thanks very much, I'll keep this in mind if and when I get one myself. I've got a few 1:72 models of the Duxford collection, so the only thing I have to worry about is making sure they fit together lol

OK....it,s not exactly an easy build. the Revell 1/144{former Otaki mould}is still probably the best and most accurate Concorde kit out there.

I think that's what mine was, I had a choice of Decals, I chose the older tail decal with the long stripe along the fuselage as it's the one I remember from my childhood watching it at Heathrow's Anniversary. It fits together lovely, My mums got it on display in the cabinet with Concorde's Galley crockery and glasses.

ah,in a nice safe place....! as for the Airfix 1/72,you,d need a whole cabinet just by itself! the one i made is around half my own height....{i,m barefy 5-7...ha,ha,the Captain is short...!}

Wow, quite a good size, I always think in the model sense (plus roller coasters);bigger is better, as its easier to work with in terms of smaller parts like the landing gear, still poses a lot of work and dedication and possibly a lot more attention but still . And I'm 5-8, I know the short feeling, my bf is like the empire state building compared to hobbit me (and I'm the tallest woman in my family)

to me,it,s not always sheer size that counts, but the quality/fit/accuracy of the kit that really counts. not to mention display space considerations! 5-8.....taller than me!

True, I have built and airfix model of a Red Arrow Gnat... Didn't fit together properly, and to put the wings on, it was really stiff and the fuselage just didn't want to go most of the time. I find Revell fits better, My Concorde is Revell, fitted together like a dream.
My cabinet happens to be taller than myself lol, proper wood, black and has three display cupboards and a normal cupboard (to hide the whiskey in ) very classy and looks oldy-worldy (My mums taste is awesome).
I may upload my awful webcam progress pictures and finished model on here.

My mate got it in Coleman's for me cause I kept parroting on about planes for a while. He got me it to shut me up . I completed it ready for my Grandad's retirement (who gave me good crit as he used to build scale models of planes). My Nan loved it though. Pity the front gear fell off ¬.¬

TomCatDriver In reply to Lone-wolfkay [2012-08-20 10:09:28 +0000 UTC]

front gear....nothing a drop of cement can,t fix, right? i wish someone would make a decent kit of the Gnat in a larger scale. knowing me,i,d probably want to make the whole Red Arrows team!

Lone-wolfkay In reply to TomCatDriver [2012-08-20 12:01:37 +0000 UTC]

Yea, I've got it in its box, the cement seems to like taking off the paint though lol. The Gnat was very smaal and was semi fiddly to put together, the paint felt like nail varsh to put on admittedly. I'd love to make a whole team (plus Concorde ) of them.

ok. it,s not the greatest kit, realy. MATCHBOX made one too back in the 70s,and it,s a clean mould, albeit a bit sparse on cockpit detail. might be worth a try. i,m not sure if the mould,s yet been reissued by REVELLGermany as yet. as for paint, you might try some TAMIYA acrylics. much easier to work with than those oil-based enamels, for sure! oh,and liquid cement beats tube-glue any day!

thanks very much, I'll have to have a mooch around, Colemans here sells a lot of Airfix stuff like the Typhoon and spitfires, but no Revell, May look on net then. Kettering doesn't have a lot of craft shops or much of anything.

TomCatDriver In reply to Lone-wolfkay [2012-08-24 01:21:29 +0000 UTC]

online, you can find just about anything nowadays! there,s a place in the UK called Hannants which has quite a selection. also, would you consider obtaining an airbrush? it would make a world of difference.

Lone-wolfkay In reply to TomCatDriver [2012-08-24 20:56:00 +0000 UTC]

I have considered getting an airbrush, I know some are rather pricey though (the cost of being an artist lol). Though I dunno how I'd be with an airbrush, I'll have to shop around. And for Hannants, I'll have to look up on the net where it is and get my taxi driver to take me.

hehe, the biggest model I've ever done was a 1:350 scale Enterprise NX-01. and the second biggest is a 1:48 North American B-25 Mitchell. so the next one could possibly be a 1:48 Boeing B-17G flying fortress

soft plastic, but needed lots of added internal structure to straighten out some of the larger parts.
