"And then off to violin-land, where all is sweetness and delicacy and harmony..."Jeremy Brett (1933-1995) was a marvellous and versatile actor with a distinguished forty-year career in film, television, radio, and stage. He is most internationally famed for his masterful and enriching portraiture of the world's greatest consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes. He has touched the hearts of millions, including my own. Mr. Brett is the "quintessential" Holmes! He is, and shall be, always dearly missed.
This is portrait is to start off the new year with a bang! 2008 hasn't been very kind to me, so I'm hoping 2009 will open doors for some hope in my life. Upward and onward!

I'll bet - there's a real art to reducing your halftones to just stark black and white and still getting the picture to look right. Good work.

Also to get the angles right. I also wanted the eyes to pop as the only bit of colour on the piece.

Jeremy Brett my favorite holmes, i love the apisode of of scandal of bohemia, the imagen of him at the end playing his violin, and siting close to the fire, and a little sluched like a child, in that apisode i dont se an actor i se the ansolotli holmes.

The hard angles does strike me as odd, but they are used in such a way that I immediately perceive just who you are portraying! And I love the man. Nice use of contrast.

It's very difficult to do a monochrome picture and nail the expression of the subject, which you've done. I particularly like your use of a single line frame which the drawing continues out of. Lovely and very black and white..

I love the expression on his face he looks so charming those eyes are very beautiful they just jump out of the page. He looks kinda like Dr.Smith (from lost in space) and Frank Sinatra had a love child. ^_^ Thats so cool he needs a nagging robot sidekick! I am amazed at the things you can make with only black and white shapes and how they merge together to make a picture You gits teh mad skills^_^ It is really awesome! I can't think of anything to critique sorry. Its made of wonderful and Joy so there!He does look like Holmes I'd love to see him in his Holmesian roles if you're up for a movie day sometime. I bet he's a hoot and a half!

This is so beautiful; I knew right away who it was. JB's got distinctive features that, if not done right, makes him look different, or like another actor. I think you nailed his looks perfectly here.
I agree 2008 wasn't a good year for me either. I'm a damaged person, never will be the same again. I would like to see '09 have a better, more positive outlook to it. Hope the same goes for you.

I know, even in the episodes when he was sick, he still looked great. He continued as hard as he could, and that's what made him such a dedicated actor. To not give up, that motto of "The show must go on!"
Yeah, I'm striving for much more optimism this year. Hopefully it'll be in all of our favor!

I can barely watch the last season without getting very emotional. It's difficult to watch, not that his acting suffered for his talent was still top-notch, but just seeing him physically ill. But he felt he had to keep going. What a trooper!

That's REALLY good. I love the shading, you gave him just the right expression. The violin was genius to add in there. His blue eyes being the only spots of bright color in the black-and-white portrait says more than a thousand words.
