I recall way back in TSRs Dragon magazine that someone once figured out that by AD&D (1e) rules Gandalf was only 6th level or thereabouts.
I never played MERPs but I'm sure his stats were more impressive in that system.

I'd rather have a wizard who knows 101 ways to use each of his 3-5 spells than one who knows 101 spells.
