Description EDIT 8/4/18: I rewrote the first few chapters of this series because I reread them from back when I wrote them in 2014 and cringed at how terrible it was. The story sounded awfully unoriginal and to redo some. If the way it's written sounds different in the other chapters, it's due to how old they are Anyway, enjoy!

The early hours of the morning began to light up the savannah. Pools of light seeped into the cave where two lioness had been awake all night. It had been a rough night for the queen, Uzuri, a beautiful sun-kissed tan lioness who had gone into the harsh process of giving birth to the heir of her throne. The pride's healer, Busara stood over the exhausted mother. A leaf dangled behind her ear to signify her status, and her pelt was a duller, mouse-brown. She gave the queen herbs to give her strength and help with the pain. The birth of her cub had been long and hard, there was even a chance that neither the mother or child would make it. They had pulled through by a miracle and it brought Busara to a sad conclusion. Uzuri began to lick her newborn and the two held their breath. As it began to cry and mewl, Busara gave a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness its okay, you two are very lucky to be alive." Uzuri weakly nodded, her eyes looking weary and worn out. She began to push her cub toward her belly and it immediately began to bury its head into its mother's fur to suckle. "I'm so glad he's a male, I don't think I could ever go through giving birth again if it had been a princess.." She sighed. Busara's eyes grew dark with sadness and sympathy for the queen. "I'm sorry to tell you this Uzuri but... I'm afraid you could not go through something like that again physically without risking losing your life. When your milk dries, I have no choice but to give you herbs that will prevent you from ever being able to have cubs again..." Busara softly murmured, hoping not to upset her. Uzuri quietly nodded, her expression blank and making it hard to tell what thoughts had plagued her mind. "...Although, your cub looks fine and healthy. I'll be back to check up on you two later, be sure to get plenty of rest." Busara started to walk back towards her den, giving a drowsy yawn on her way out. "Thank you Busara for everything, I'll see you later." Uzuri quietly called after her. She could feel a wave of fatigue overtake her. Scooping her son into her arms, she rested her head on her paws and had begun to doze off before she could hear paw steps at the entrance of the cave. "Is Busara already here to check on me? How long did I sleep? I could have sworn I just closed my eyes." Uzuri thought as she slowly turned and lifted her head. To her surprise, her mate, King Uther was standing at the front of the den, curiously peeking in at her. Uzuri flicked her tail, inviting him in. He cautiously walked in, as if he were shy of what he'd find. "How are you?" he awkwardly said as he stopped by her side, trying to subtly glance around her for a sign of a cub. The cub, poked his head from his mother's arms and began to cry. Licking the top of his head, Uzuri briefly smiled, "Exhausted. I thought this little one would never arrive." Uther's eyes lit up with a softness Uzuri had never seen before. The only way she could describe it was utter pride. She probably had the same expression, she thought. He awkwardly nuzzled her, never taking his eyes off the cub. "I'm sorry that I woke you. I was worried all night you wouldn't make it. Labor usually never takes that long." Uzuri gave a curt nod and let out a disappointed sigh. After a pause, she decided to say, "Busara says I can no longer have cubs. She thinks if I were to have another one, I could possibly die." Uther's eyes widened immediately before being filled with affliction. He gave her ear a reassuring lick. "I'm so sorry Uzuri.. It'll be okay, I promise. This one is perfect, we wouldn't possibly need another child. One is better than none, isn't it?" He tried to cheer her up but he felt that the only thing that could ease her pain would be time to adapt. She nodded half-heartedly and turned her attention to the cub. He attempted to open his eyes and Uzuri could tell although his pelt looked similar to hers, her son shared his father's eyes. She grinned and Uther too could see that his eyes resembled his. "Sh's just as beautiful as you, you know. I bet she'll make a fine hunter." Uzuri gave him a confused look before breaking into a small giggle. "She won't need to become a hunter because he's not a lioness." Uther's eyes widened and he gave his chest an embarrassed lick. "My bad." He laughed, his eyes now glowing with a new sense of pride. Although he was fine with a daughter, he knew he'd enjoy being able to have a father-son relationship with his new child. "Are we still going to name him Midas?" Uzuri looked back down at her cooing cub. The golden light that lit up his squinted eyes concluded that the name was destined for him. Nodding, she smiled, "I couldn't possibly think of a better name."
