Dude...

Spirals.

Rainbow colours.

Don't Bogart that joint, my friend....

I don't use Apophysis much these days but it's good for a nice trip sometimes.

you mean you've done this with apophysis?! This is one of the greatest pics I've ever seen! And I see many pics! Do you have a tutorial for this? Or the variations you used? Oh god this pic is good!

I've been admiring this piece for a while now, and I can't believe I'm just now adding it to my faves! It's amazing, and I'd love some advice on the technique, if you wouldn't mind....or even a set of basic params that would give me the idea. Either way....it's brilliant, and DD worthy!

Thank you, I really appreciate it. Rainbow colours and spirals are a bit of a long-standing joke in fractals, so part of me wanted to see if I could pull it off.

trystianity In reply to lucid-light [2007-10-13 17:22:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, the main ones for the shape were rings2 and waves but you can get similar effects with different variations.

I'm a fan of this style, from what I've seen it only yields good flames, and you did just that here. Love the symmetry, the intersecting shapes, everything. I have to agree with Michael a little though, I actually would like flatter colors in this one.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trystianity In reply to Phoenix-22 [2007-10-08 23:19:54 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, it's probably not the style you're thinking of though - it's actually a weird rings style variant, if you can believe it. I might try another with some more obvious rings structure (maybe some other variation that makes similar effects?) and less trippy colours...

Thanks so much, I love his work - big Tool fan here. It probably had some influence, conscious or otherwise. I was totally thinking about visionary and psychedelic art when I was putting the finishing touches on it anyway.

IDeviant In reply to trystianity [2007-10-09 06:43:20 +0000 UTC]

Just realised: Grey, not Gray! You'd think a Brit would have got that right

I suspect that fractal art could come a long way to approaching, electronically, the kind of epic mindscapes that Grey paints. This piece is certainly special as it avoids the strictly geometric and introduces more organic elements: a colouring that emulates brushstroke; and imperfect symmetry, so prevalent in the human form
