Jeanne d'Arc

Or Joan of Arc. Probably one of the most famous historical figures of all time, Joan really needs little introduction. But briefly: Joan of Arc was born a peasant girl in 1412 France and became a military leader who persuaded the King, Charles VII, she had divine right to expel the English from Northern France. After victories at Orleans and Patay she failed to take Paris and was captured by the Burgundians and sold to the English. She was tried for witchcraft and heresy, and supported by a tribunal of French Ecclesiastics who were in league with the English, she was burned at the stake in Rouen in 1431 aged just 19.

This is beautiful. But I have one question.

How can we be so sure that Joan Of Arc was given divine instruction from God to drive the English out of France? I ask this because, last time I checked, one of the ten commandments was "Thou Shalt Not Kill."

Also, when God commanded Abraham to kill his son Issac, an angel stopped Abraham at the last second. Finally, when Jesus way about to be crucified, Peter pulled out a sword, sliced off one of the Roman soldier's ears, and Jesus told Peter to put the sword away.

I believe in God and say the Lord's Prayer every night, but I also believe that God would not be proud of you if you blew up an abortion clinic or committed some other act of terrorism.

I have two theories behind Joan of Arc's actions:
1. She lied about hearing God's voice so that other people would be more likely to rally behind her cause.
2. She thought she heard God's voice, but it was actually Satan impersonating God.
