I met my spirit guide in a dream one night.I think most people get wolves or something. I got an alien from a planet orbiting a brown dwarf.
It was a rather odd looking alien, then again I'm not sure what most aliens look like. It had two front legs constructed like radulas, with ripcord like tendons holding toothy claws. In a run it could pull the assembly backwards, chainsawing itself forward. The back leg was a much simpler mechanism.
It didn't tell me this. I just knew it in the way you sometimes know things in dreams.
Anyways, I did what you do when you meet your spirit guide. I asked it how to meet guys.
"TALK TO THEM ABOUT FIREFLY" It replied.
I told it that I wasn't really sure that was the right thing to do.
"IF THEY DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT FIREFLY THEY AREN'T WORTH IT. IT WAS A DAMN GOOD SHOW."
I didn't really know what to say at that point.
"STOP BEING SUCH A NITCHPANTS. TALK TO THEM ABOUT STUFF YOU LIKE. SEE IF THEY ALSO LIKE THOSE THINGS. LIKE HOW AMAZING WHEDON'S DIALOGUE IS."
I asked what a nitchpants was.
"YOU'RE A FUCKING NITCHPANTS."
And with that, I woke up.

Playing around with digital ink and alien locomotion. I could definitely refine the alien design a bit more, but not right now. The description just kinda... grew out of nowhere.
Inking is pretty fun though.

Your dream experience and illustration of it is very entertaining and facinating. It is a while since I interacted with anyone who even knows what a dream guide is and never someone so capable of illustrating a dream experience. It is an interesting field to explore.
I'm not sure if I have met a spirit guide but I once took advice from a cola bottle.

Quite alien indeed! I've honestly never heard such a unique description. Your imagination is quite inventive!
I had a friend who once claimed that he had an experience with his spirit animal: a human. Then again, he's sort of a hipster, so I guess that figures.

That said, I really like the way you can just use negative space like that. Just black on white and it's amazing and so simple but still captures the depth of atmosphere in the picture.

The writing? Mostly I read a lot of things by very good authors and I think that helps me figure out what works and what doesn't.
I did read one ring world novel, it wasn't good but not really my sort of thing!

Mine is a brown crow. Which makes sense considering my Cherokee heritage. I forget the common name of the bird, but I remember that it fishes and it's native to the Northern Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
Met it roughly a decade ago, and got called "Bear-Wolf of the 9 Spiders clan". Did some research and couldn't find anything on the clan name (still can't). I found an old book of Native American tales from 1901 (that I have yet to find again) that told the tale of the Bear-Wolf (a tale I'm still trying to find again). My guess is that it was an old explanation for the hemicyon.

At least *your* spirit guide is straightforward and speaks in words that people can say. Mine communicates in air quality and atmospheric ambiance. I don't think it even has a physical form. You are damned lucky.
