History
An only child, Horatio spent most of his life trying to live up to his father's expectations of him. While for most, this would be relatively simple..that wasn't the case for Horatio. His father was a near-genius, if he wasn't one entirely. The man worked as a lawyer, officially, and he was conditioned to follow in the same practice as his father. Actually, the thought of chasing after some other sort of dream never really occurred to him. Most of Horatio's life had been pouring into books. He's actually rather fond of them....in any form. Fiction, Non-fiction, Fantasy, Historical, Bibliographies...he's usually happiest when he has something in front of him to read. That started at an early age and will forever continue until he loses his eyesight...((something which would probably devastate him, really.))

For almost all of his life, he had been known as stand-off-ish. He would be friendly, if you came to him of course. Or rather, he'd be outwardly friendly. His smiles never quite reach his eyes, and his sincerity only goes so far. In his classes though, he was typically the one to get the best scores in subjects...or the ones he deemed important, anyway. Horatio would keep up with current events while studying, almost always having one news channel on or another as a sort of background noise that he somehow managed to pay attention to.

In the middle of studying at a law school, somewhere just off in the distance, he had gotten some news. Both his father and mother had been shot and killed by an unknown assailant. It was in broad daylight at the time, in the middle of a packed street. Putting off his studies only this once, Horatio managed to make it home and get as much information as he could. This was all to easy for him...after all, he now had access to all of his father's records...both the legitimate and illegitimate copies. Most of the content within were already in his knowledge...he had been at his father's shoulder for so many years at that point that he was more than able to pick up where his father left off.

He was also far too easily able to uncover the tracks of his parents murderer, and had his own sort or revenge. Since this, and graduating from law school, he has more than comfortably taken the place of his father, as well as taking the time out of his 'oh-so-busy' schedule to do legal work for friends of his family...if he sees fit to take on the case.

His quest for knowledge really never stopped though, and upon hearing of the opportunity at the dream labs... well he couldn't resist. Of course, he could have asked somebody else to go in his stead but... whether it's his own interest in the new technology, or distrust of others to handle this /properly/, he's decided to partake in the tournament. Even if it means he has to leave his position unattended for a small while.

Personality

Horatio might seem friendly, if a bit like he's not truly interested in anything you have to say. That might be because in truth...he really has no interest in what you are saying almost 90% of the time. Most won't know this, but it's probably a good idea to not indulge too much of your personal information to him. He likes to save juicy tidbits that might possibly be useful for later in his head until he can write them down...unless he already has. Truth be told, he doesn't much care for people unless he works with them. And even then, that's more out of respect and a sense of loyalty out of his father's work than anything. Generally though, he can be seen reading...whether for pleasure and research.

Pokemon

Maria
Ability: Synchronize - Synchronize passes on status problems to the opponent that caused the problem. Synchronize will not pass on the sleep or frozen status conditions, or if the status condition was obtained from items such as the Flame Orb. Synchronize will have no effect if the other Pokémon has a type, Ability, or field condition (e.g. Safeguard) that prevents them from being poisoned, paralyzed, or burned.
Attacks:
Shadow Ball (Ghost) - Shadow Ball deals damage and has a 20% chance of lowering the target's Special Defense.
Psybeam (Psychic) - Psybeam does damage and has a 10% chance of confusing the target.
Dig (Ground) - On the turn that Dig is selected, the user will dig underground, where the only attacks it cannot avoid are Bide, Swift, and Transform. On the following turn, Dig will do damage, PP will be deducted from it, and it will count as the last move used. Once Dig is selected, the user won't be able to switch out until it is disrupted or fully executed.
Giga Impact (Normal) - Giga Impact deals damage and then forces the user to recharge during the next turn. Unless this attack misses, the user will always have to recharge.

Maria comes off as a pet to many who might not know Horatio, but she is far from one. Ever-watchful, Maria will get to know people more easily than Horatio ever could...and he can judge based on her reactions whether or not interacting with this person is in his best interests. That said, she's always a little biased to somebody who treats her well, and does not appreciate rough-handling.

Ioan
Ability: Rivalry raises the base power of a move by 25% if the foe and the user have the same gender, but reduces base power by 25% if the foe and the user have opposite genders. If the user or the foe is genderless, the move's base power is unaffected.
Attacks:
Focus Blast (Fighting) - Focus Blast does damage and has a 10% chance of lowering the target's Special Defense.
X-Scissor (Bug) - X-Scissor deals damage and has no secondary effect.
Dragon Pulse (Dragon) - Dragon Pulse inflicts damage and has no secondary effect.
Grass Knot (Grass) - Grass Knot doesn't have a standard base power. Rather, its damage is calculated based on the weight of the target.

Ioan is the brawn of the team, through and through. Seemingly stern, he was trained much in the same manner as a working pokemon would be... when he is 'on the job' (within round) he is focused, and will not let himself be distracted by random things (food, affection, etc). Off the job, he can act very much like a lapdog, and is actually quite friendly... unless you were to make some sort of unkind advance towards Horatio. That would be when his puppy demeanor snaps back into guard dog without being told.

Titan
Ability: Water Veil - Water Veil prevents burns. If a Pokémon is Burned and gains this Ability through Role Play or Trace, the Burn will be removed. If these Abilities are lost, the Burn will return.
Attacks:
Megahorn (Bug) - Megahorn deals damage and has no side effects.
Scald (Water) - Scald inflicts damage and has a 30% chance of causing a burn. Upon execution, Scald will thaw the user if frozen, regardless of the success of the move.
Blizzard (Ice) - Blizzard does damage and has a 10% chance of freezing the target (100% chance if hailing).
Poison Jab (Poison) - Poison Jab inflicts damage and has a 30% chance of poisoning the target.

Barbara is the newest addition to a collection of Goldeen and Seaking he keeps and trains. He would have brought somebody more experienced...but that would have robbed poor Barbara of that opportunity. Vain, this fish will mostly ignore others unless they appeal to her through certain methods... chances are she will snub most people but those she sees Horatio around frequently.
