Description Let's be frank: Anime on daytime television (with the exception of the funimation channel) SUCKS ASS. IN my opinion, anything on between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm isnt worth looking at. Which brings me to my next point:

THE NARUTO ANIME SUCKS. I could do a better job then those guys. That goes for the scripting AND the acting.

I love the story, it's really creative. I look forward to getting a couple chapters of the manga every month to read. When they dubbed that anime they basically kicked the shit out of a great story, and that makes me upset. The anime itself isn't that great either... although I'm sure the original dialogue will make the show bearable.

DBZ, Naruto, Pokemon, it's because of shows like these that amazing voice actors like Mihcelle Rodriguez (Liz in IGPX) don't even get a listen to. I don't care who you are, GunxSword, IGPX, and Full Metal Alchemist have probably some of the best dialogue and acting I've ever seen out of ANYTHING.

And for those of you unfamiliar with IGPX, it's a hibrid show which means it was made in Japan at almost the same time it was released in America, and actually has 3 more episode that were never released in Japan for... reasons that are a little complicated for me to explain to non-fans (explainedi n commentary). Oh yeah, i should also mention that anime commentary is some of the most hillariosu stuff i've seen. Particularly on the last episode of season 1 of FMA ("good job, Sunny..." XD inside joke) and episode 6 of IGPX. Cracks me up even after i watch it for the 10th time.

I'm gonna be making alot more stamps to come, so see yalls on the flip flop!

WARNING: Flammers will be shot, survivors wil be shot, again.

The one American voice actor that makes any anime dub for me amazing is Joshua Seth! He voiced Tai Kamiya, Tetsuo Shima ( He saved him!), Hige and Lord Dio. Joshua has Pure Talent!

If you ask me, animes are meant to be watched in their original language!

I HEAR ya! I've never actually seen the Naruto anime, but I cringed when I saw who they chose for Naruto himself. And that they stuck with that for Shippuuden. At the very least, I would've chosen Sam Riegel!

I am totally with you on this. I have thankfully not had too much experience with bad voice acting, as I tend to stick with Funimation as they are the Gods of dubbing, but I did come across a very hair pulling situation when trying to watch Fairy Tail, and after tracking down and watching all that Funimation offered, I had to switch to other dubbing companies. I went through three dubbing companies before switching to subbed; one of which was so bad that they screamed 'ice wizard magic power' every time Grey had to do something,Β the audio didn't line up after a certain point, the dialogue was bland, and there were a few parts where it was still in Japanese like they decided not to translate that part.

There are a few other good dubbing companies out there besides Funimation; like the companies that did Inuyasha and Wolfs Rain, but there are so many dubbings that just don't meet up to par with where they should. And its those bad dubbings that everyone judges and imagines that all dubs are.

(I am truly sorry about the beginning rant.)

FUNImation and Viz I think really pick out great voice actors I guess I don't really care too much for voices in anime, I tend to focus more on the storyline but there are some characters with certain voices in Japanese and English that bug me a bit.

I really love the va's Funimation picked for Dragonball Z and FMA/FMA: Brotherhood such a wonderful job and Viz picked great ones for Naruto as well ^^

I know right? For some reason, it has to be over the top, high-pitched, always screaming, not-really-believable-voices. Jesus.
Funimation is good though, you're right.

My kid brother got me into Baccano! a while back. The voice acting is actually pretty good.

Unlike Higurashi's English dub. Rena's evil laugh sounds like the Wicked Witch of the West. I kid you not.

I was about to mention Baccano! but you beat me to it. That has to be one of the best Dubs I have ever heard and in my review of it I reccomended it over the sub, if for no other reason than Bryan Massey.

SweetOctopiewriter [2011-07-05 17:30:35 +0000 UTC]

This is why I try to avoid the English dub. ESPECIALLY for Naruto (I only watch the Shippuden now)

To me, there's nothing more pleasing to my ears when it comes to movies, cartoons, anime, video games, and animated Web shows than good voice acting. I am probably one of the biggest seiyuu (Japanese voice actor) nerds you will ever meet in your life. It makes me happy when I hear one of my favourite seiyuus grace a character with their voice in an anime. Same goes with English voice actors, but not as much.
I'm glad you made this stamp! dA needed one of these.

I voice act for fun, so I'm always noticing if a character and their voice isn't matching up XD
I'm not really an anime person, but of the ones I've seen, I can say right now, the Japanese voices are ALWAYS better than the English dub, 99.9999% of the time.

That other 1% would include stuff like...Ponyo, or School Rumble... the english voices were perfect XD

I agree. D:
I dont watch much american-tv-ized anime, but I've watched the Naruto dub, and most of their voices make me cringe. >_____>
I think Ino and Sakura are pretty good, but Hinata sounds unrealistically soft, (to be fair she did in Japanese too. They shouldve gone with a girl who naturally sounded like that, not a punk-chick who can whisper.) Naruto is.... Well, ugh. Sasuke.... I love Yuri Lowenthall, but please, couldnt they have had either a girl or a kid voice Sasuke? Ugh. XD

You know what else that bothers me about anime dubs? The fact that a lot of the English voice actresses try to emulate the high-pitched voices of some female characters in anime.

PLEASE, STOP IT. AMERICANS HAVE STRESS ACCENTS, NOT PITCH ACCENTS, LIKE IN JAPANESE. AMERICAN VOICES AREN'T MEANT TO GO THAT HIGH! YOU SOUND LIKE A FUCKING CHIPMUNK, STOP IT!!

Sorry...

Huzzah! I love the dub of FMA I watched it before the subbed version and I like the voice acting much better in English. Everyone's voice was perfect! But my favorite example of a good dub is Hetalia: Axis Powers. It's hilarious and even more politically incorrect than the original!

the most annoying things about bad voice actors is that they don't even bother about pronouncing the names correctly, or change the names in total.
the only really good dub I know is Gundam Wing, but probably because I heard the dub before the original.

I dunno how the american voices are, but I've watched FMA in english, and it's awesome.

One of the best dubbing works is the mexican one, they're really good actors and their job is awesome.

fact: Jajaja! Sasuke and Uryuu's voice is Noriaki Sugiyama, and in spanish they share the same voice actor too xDDDD

I support voices that actually act, rather then those that sound EXACTLY the same as a previous voice actor.
Sonic for example, his new voice actor's good! But everyone is moaning saying he doesn't sound like Jason Griffith, the previous actor
WHAT THE CRAP?! At least he's making an EFFORT

You are referring to dub right? I agree, dubbing is usually terrible... but if you hear the original dialogues you'll see that they tend to be way better, I'm not necessary saying that the actors are better (they are) but also the dialogues are generally better without being passes trough the filter of translation...

Also dub versions are often directed to kinds which means that some dialogues are soften as well. Also is generally related to some form of censorship... I heard Spanish dubbing and they went as far as to change some of the characters genders to censor some same-sex relationships... it's ridiculous....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Chelo-kun [2010-08-21 19:58:20 +0000 UTC]

Good dubbing is purely subjective. What sounds good to one person, sounds horrible to another. The guys who license anime into the US constantly send their work to the guys in-charge over in Japan for approval. The problem is the Japanese has no strong criteria for English like we do. They listen to the dub and say "This english is good, it sound better then our Japanese. The character talk normal in english, but japanese it sound fake and cartoony". The Japanese aren't reliable, so we need to trust in our better judgement.
