Description I wanted to try something new, so I did ^_^

It's my character Gaeva from UV ([link] ) and she is obviously running from something. I had a "forced to run against her will but will be back some day..." kind of idea while making this. I also had the soundtrack of Angels and Demons in the background while making it ^_^ Oh, I didn't use a reference or anything, just made it all up as I went along (nearly forgot her horn that way ) so her pose probably doesn't make much sense, but I liked the way it looked ^_^

From scratch in Photoshop, 4 hours, 5 layers.

I like this for it being something different than your normal, more serene Gaeva-pictures. You really got the dynamics of this down, the "camera" almost cannot even catch her inside the frame...!

As a comment on anatomyy, this is a more exaggerated Gaeva -- she looks a lot more ... streamlined than usual; she has not much of a chest in this picture, she is mostly legs. Also compare her head and neck-length to the rest of her body, I'm not an expert on horse anatomy, but this is a rather extreme ratio.

...however, this does not disturb the image in the least. Anatomy may be off, but this seems to have been done in order to add more dynamics and it certainly has. I really like the pose, she's really throwing her body forward and the expression really does give that determined "I'll be back" feel rather than e.g. fear or panic. It almost feels like she's using her tail as a stabilizer here - lest she'd be lifting off the ground. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)" /> Overall the hairs (in tail and mane) look very good and I also have nothing to complain on the shadowing -- the single shadow on the ground fits well; possibly it would have been interesting with more highlights on her to make the image "pop" more from the rather non-descript dark background.

Good work on this, always nice to see a different pose and approach to the character.

Thanks for the nice comment ^_^

It bugged me a little when I added the wing that you could no longer see her chest to waist ratio (chest being much bigger) but I didn't realize that even so the body was a little lacking till you just pointed it out. I suppose it doesn't hurt the image, but it was intentional!

I'm also glad her expression survived. Before I did the final touch ups on her face she looked a lot more determined and I could not get that back afterwards, big shame. But at least it still shows, yay ^_^

I also went through 9 other background ideas to match the reddish one you see before deciding to go with the single shadow you see now. The problem was that I started almost from the start with that red background and could not change it afterwads anymore as Gaeva's coloring had been adjusted to fit just that...first time I tried that so I'm not sure yet how to handle such a thing in later stages (or maybe it takes better planning ahead of time ^_~ ).

Anyway, I'm glad to hear this little experiment wasn't amusing to just myself ^_^

very graceful, beutiful, although a little fuzzy and the horn is missing but there are many details, very nice and beutiful wings, lang mane and tail, great shading, many great colors. a very graceful picture if i do say so myself. beutiful hooves, long legs, maybe a diffrent color background would be good but this one works also... and maybe a little more room for the picture would be nice.... slightly too dark on the nose... good color for the unicorn... little long eyes but very very nice... hmm... maybe some less shading... but a beutyful picture! good job! e.deviantart.com/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Lick)" />

Thank you for the many kind words ^_^ I agree it is rather fuzzy and normally I wouldn't consider this piece to be done because of it, but I hope it doesn't ruin the image too much as I was afraid making it too clean as I usually do would make it a little too boring. It hadn't occurred to me to give the image more room though, I never changed the size in proportion to the unicorn, lol, that's something to think about. And I tried to find another color background actually, but none looked really well so I gave up and kept this one! And that's pretty much how I always I draw their eyes ^_~

Great work, I like how the wings are folded. I always wondered how pegasuses are supposed to run with their wings all out and creating drag

Thanks! And lol, yeah, it'd be like running with an open parachute behind you A wingless one would probably still outrun them even if they did have their wings all neatly folded to their sides though, there's still drag, and all that extra weight!

Dust-the-Night [2009-05-23 01:32:13 +0000 UTC]

At first glance, the picture looks almost like one of a plastic figurine of a unicorn.

Her wavy mane and tail look nice. They're almost cloud-like or perhaps more accurately fumes of a white smoke. So, she must be galloping very fast.

Her wings really stand out almost like an optical illusion. There's a seeming 3-dimensional appearance to them. That's probably because of the shadows or shades around the wing.

A fine work of art.

I hope the wings don't stand out too much as to make it seem they're not a part of her! (Because I often make that mistake >.< ). And I like the smoky quality of her manes and tail as well, I don't get that right very often ^_^

Thanks for the comment! ^_^
