Despite a helpful kitten romping all over my tablet and trying to teethe on the pen, I finished my first piece for Utahraptor Week Art Drive!
This was a commission for TheInsomniac123 on tumblr, who asked for a Utahraptor in the (admittedly unlikely) but gorgeous plumage of a cardinal. Awesome! I love these little birds, back when I was in the states there was always a pair nesting in the stink tree outside my townhouse, so I did a male and a female.
If you’re interested in purchasing a piece of Utahraptor art - all the money goes to The Utahraptor Project to fund the prep of a block of stone filled with a treasure trove of raptor fossils. while the coloring isnt exactly accurate (a predotory animal that size wouldn't be vibrant if it wanted to hunt) but its overall a gorgeous image

Ha, as you say, perhaps not the most likely colour - but a gorgeous one! Though that said, perhaps this is a more temporary breeding plumage and the male is marked more like the female in non-breeding seasons?
