This is very true. But as I said the Nazis simply took a symbol other cultures use and perverted it for their own use.
They also did this with the term "Aryan". I am a so-called "white person" but I can't say I'm an "Aryan" because I am not from the Middle East. I am not from Iran, or Syria, or Saudi, or any place like that. If you trace back the term "aryan" that's what a true "Aryan" is, and not a blonde-haired, blue-eyed "super human race white person". Funny because Hitler himself a was neither blonde-haired or blue eyed, and he himself was part Jewish for that matter. But it was not just Jews he killed! The guy not only killed Jews, but other people who did not agree with his program. Anyone who stood in opposition to his totalitarian reign was killed. Jewish or not! Jews, Christians, Catholics, you name it. If they didn't go along with Hitler they were killed. Period.
But a lot of confusion about symbols like the swastika are due to media hype. The specific uses by the nazis can be of course duly noted. However, it's important to recognize that the symbol did not originate with Hitler or the Socialist Party of Germany (i.e. the "Nazis").
I'll close this with a quote from George Orwell's "1984" (which was quoted at the beginning of the movie for that book)
"Whoever controls the past controls the future.
WHOEVER CONTROLS THE PRESENT CONTROLS THE PAST."
(emphasis mine)

heheh!
BTW - I saw those "strings" a long time ago. It's why I sometimes do stuff like THIS:

This is nicely created. I'm finishing up a report on the assasination on Reinhard Heydrich, a highly-praised Nazi leader who constructed Hitler's Final Solution, and I've been looking for a picture of the Wehrmacht eagle, may I use this on my cover page?

Well, I'm not german, neither a white man, but that Eagle, despite what does it means and/or who is symbolizing, it's so fantastic, even all the symbols that the NSDAP are interesting and, somewhat, beautiful. However, also reminds me how brutal can be an idea.
Thousands of german people died in that time, with another thousands of people from others nationalities, and I'm not talking only about those who died on the holocaust, we must mention the regular soldiers, who fought on the battlefields, on the submarines, on the planes fighting for a better future for their country (they didn't know anything about the camps or the massacre, they weren't SS or Getapo agents.); braves generals who had better ideas about the future of their country and taking care about their soldiers... even the civilians who suffered the unstopable bombing on their cities (even the Britons), only to fullfill the ambitions of a few.
Well, the 3rd. Reich did well on the economy, they didn't sacrifice the wealth of their people on making weapons and increasing the number of soldiers, but they did those actions to cover what were they really doing. Well, that's part of the history, even the Allies were brutal at sometimes (Who didn't saw the first and second capters of 'Band Of Brothers' were american soldiers killed german prisioners after making them to do their own graves?) and the real cause of the war were, again, the allies: The Versailles Contract, that was unfair, giving all the responsibility to the germans, despite the fact that Austria-Hungary was the country who began the WWI.
Well, although all I wrote, the eagle it's well done, you used symmetry very well and that's the important art criticism.
Ciao.

it feels kinda odd to comment such a "piece of art". do you actually know what Hitler did? he killed people because they didn't fit in...because they had ancestors who came from foreign countries...because they were outlandish...not German or because they were handicapped. do you know how that must have been? I still feel shame for this piece of history. for this I'm not proud to be German.
in my opinion Hitler was a coward; the NSDAP set the Reichstag on fire just to show Hitler's strength, they lost the fight on D-Day because they didn't want to wake Hitler up even though they were attacked by the Allies.
and yes, after all Hitler has done (you might think that he did great things...he was great in speaking, he knew how to use rhetoric...but that's the only thing he knew)...do you know what he did at the end of WWII?
he committed suicide because he was scared!!!
hm, I would say: Hitler was nothing else than a coward!
well, that is my opinion. I don't want you to be angry about that. I just want you to know what I learned about him. maybe the "Neo-Nazis" know him in a different way, but this way can't be a good one!
but yeah, nice work and...good research.

Most of you don't know what you're talking about...
You are no germans and you are no soldiers so you don't know what this time means to us!
The bravest german Heros fell, because they were given stupid orders by a bunch of stupid and crazy criminals, who hid themselves in Bunkers while others fought for them.
Especially Hitler, this fucking private who had no Idea of how to lead an Army- he didn't listen to our generals, that's why we lost.
These fucking Nazi-wimps did a bad job to my fatherland. Without them we would have won the war and whole europe would be germany... without racism.

Without them, Germany would have already collapsed in the '30s. The NSDAP rebuilt Germany and was doing a very good job at turning it into a paradise until the English decided to start a war on Germany.
I suggest you read an orriginal version of Mein Kampf before you talk such nonsense. Yes, Hitler was a poor military tactician, but he was one of the best politicians of the 20th century.

He was a strong politician, you are right...
But the NSDAP wasn't the only Nationalistic thinking party in the Weimarer Republic. There were certain other parties, some of them were ruled by formerly generals and officers from WW1.
They also had some good ideas about how to get my country out of it's bad situation.
In addition to that there were a lot of politicians abroad, especially in the UK, who wanted to help germany out the Versailles contract, which was the main reason for our economical problems.
If we would have started dealing with them by talking, we would have solved the problems anyway. But by starting the war, Hitler pissed off, even this people.
I recommend you read some more books than Mein Kampf, because there is always more than one solution to a problem.
After all, Hitlers policy led to our final defeat! and the result of an action is the only thing that counts...
look at the map of my country before and after the war, now germany is nothing compared to before.
And never forget: In the 3rd Reich a german was more valuable than any other human, since I don't suppose you are german, I would be your master and you had to serve... would you like that???

Askariga In reply to Askariga [2005-09-21 16:47:45 +0000 UTC]
No, it was not his policy that led to our defeat but his stupid tactical orders he gave. he ignored the generals and even the front officers that reported to him. He was a poor tactician and his insanity and ignorance for reality let him play with armies that were just no longer existing...
Anyway I wasn't fed too much with anti-nationalistic media. I even read mein Kampf (in an original german version from ´38) I always read the real reports but I see things from the tactical and realistic view of a soldier not from the visionary view of a wannabe-political civilian.
I'm a son of germany, Hitler was just a man (even no german!) no man is perfect, neither he was.
And no man is greater or more important than our holy german Reich!
Hitler forgot this and destroyed it - my fatherland, not yours!

Bormann was no better. What made things wrong in the fatherland to begin with was the Weimar republic. We were WINNING the air war back in 1918 with our Fokker DvIIs. It took but one great push to finish it completley before the Third Reich even was a twinkle in a partially whacked Gefrieter's eye.
Of course, the Entente powers HAD NO RIGHT to continue the blockade into 1919. THEY are the reason the Third Reich came to be.
Never should we have let an AUSTRIAN do the job that a PRUSSIAN could have.
Of course, what right have I to say? My family was gone from Weisbaden long before either war began. We left in 1880, and left my birthright, my "von" and my rights as a freifrau.
Askariga, I'm going to have to add you. It's simple. We Alte Kameraden need to stick together.

Hitler's policies did not lead to Germany's defeat. The enemies of national socialism just wanted to destroy it, and that's what they did. Had he not been stopped, Hitler would have made Europe into a much better place to live.
Perhaps you should read Mein Kampf instead of the anti-German literature you've been fed ever since you got out of kindergarten. Oh wait, you can't.... Your government doesn't want you to read that book, because they know how much sense it makes and how much it makes them look like fools.
