Sometimes the shark encounters have caused me to literally pee myself!
but ther stingrays are no threat at all.

Stingrays are very cool. It's like they fly underwater. This really caught my attention with its subtle lighting!

Thank you and yes it is that dark. I kept thinking I was going to make it too dark and ruin it. But, in the end I was pleased with the effect.

Beautiful piece! Serene and almost abstract...it really has a very quiet, surreal atmosphere. The color choices and the balance of the light and dark with the intermingling of the ray shapes is excellent.

This picture has a really mystic atmosphere and thatΒ΄s why I love it. Although itΒ΄s a nature scene it looks very surreal, especially throgh the green colour. Stingrays arebeautiful animals, and you catched the majestic floating very well.

It was difficult. It kept getting darker and darker and I thought I was going to wreck it. Sometimes it's hard to know when something's finished. Thanks for taking the time to look.

Yes, I do a lot of scuba, and this was in no way scary. It was a serene and peaceful thing.
Like some sort of slow-motion prehistoric bird flight. When you dive the only sound is your breathing, which added to the mood. Thx for taking time to look.

I really like it, where did you dive? I wish I could dive more often, but Western Europe waters aren't that clean and the Med. Sea is starting to get the same too. The only place I can dive is the Atlantic at the west coast of Africa, which I try to do every year with my father :]

I dive mostly in the Caribbean. That picture was taken when I was diving in Costa Rica.I would like to dive more too. I life in Minnesota (North central U.S.). So, I have a to travel a long way to dive. The coast of Africa sounds nice. Is it?

Yes, diving near the coast of Senegal is breathtaking, also further up north at the Cape Verde Islands there is a great waterscape, simply gorgeous.

Very beautiful.
I think you have managed to catch this deep ocean feeling very well, and the movement of the fishes. I can almost see how they start moving forward, like flying through the water.
It's tingling my mind a bit that they seem to be swimming from darkness towards light. Makes me want to ponder if there's some symbolic meaning in it.
What kind of colors you used in painting? How long did it take you? *curious*

vorrr In reply to Mysticara [2008-02-28 19:31:18 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Mysticara. This was done with thinned out acrylic paints, in layer upon layer of different color. When the
rays started out the were a deep pink. The paper is a 140# cold press Rives BFK white. The whole thing, from under drawing to finish took about 7 hrs. When I took the photo that I used for this painting, I was surrounded by more than a hundred rays. It was absolutely the coolest dive experience I've had. It was like some kind of slow motion prehistoric bird flight. It's completely silent underwater, except for your own breathing, which added a beautiful solemnity to the experience. I have a number of other good photos from that dive that I hope to work into paintings. Again, thank you for the nice comments.

Interesting. I've also done some painting with acrylic paints, but, I'm still on novice level.
I'm now jealous for you, as you've gotten to witness something so awesome. Although, then again, it's a good thing because it got you to paint something very pretty. ^_^

this is just damn gorgeous! the only thing i can say is that i wish that it was just a bit brighter so i could see everything easier and the blackness in the right bottom corner pulls you off the picture (also have the same problems with the watermark) but this is like professional none the less, wish i could paint like this

I have to believe that if you can paint on the comuter as beautifully as you do, you can use real paints well too.

actually i can't the only paint i have ever touched is water colors and one other (it starts with a p i think) and i suck at both, but i really want to try oil painting ^^
