Ridden by Kiralee Grundy, representing Caraphernelia Park
Entered in the Intermediate Dressage Class; Previous Show Experience
Having a broken foot during the busiest part of the competition season was not very ideal. Since coming home from the Dragon Nest End Of Winter Dressage Cup, where Absolem conveniently crushed Kiralee’s foot into 7 pieces, she had spent two whole weeks in hospital. Not only was that two weeks in agonising pain, it was two weeks away from doing what she loved best, and working at the stable. Naturally, surgery was definitely required, but being the stubborn girl that she was, she was not going to let the Slovenian surgeons do it. It was absolutely nothing against them, and she had been offered some of the finest surgeons in the country; she just wanted to go home. So they provided her with a temporary cast, a hideous moon-boot for support, and a very generous supply of pain killers. She could have kissed the prescriber.
The two weeks had given her a lot of free time, which she spent what she thought was wisely. She’d registered for a small number of shows, with the first of them being the Oak Brooke’s First Annual Dressage Show. She had her eyes on three classes, but due to her current state, figured it would be best to take competition’s one class at a time. So here they were today, saddling up for the Intermediate Dressage.
It had been beautiful and sunny all day, with some slight showers, which granted them a wonderful show of rainbows and fine colours in the air. Much to her disgust, she was not here alone to enjoy it. A number of weeks ago representative from each of the four subsections travelled around the world attending auctions and public horse sales, where they managed to purchase a small number of fairly decent horses. One auction they went to, they even purchased horses that weren’t part of the auction; they were only sold because the crew at Imperialis pushed and pushed. They wanted these horses bad, and finally, they got them. Little did Kira know, though, that they also managed to pick up some extra staff that were looking for new jobs, now that their stable had a large shortage of work.
Their newest member, Damone, was sent along with Kira to make sure she did as little as possible when preparing, so as not to damage any part of her foot again. He offered time and time again to ride for her, but she shot him down faster than anyone. It was her horse, it was her competition, and he should just butt right out of it. She honestly did not know why she was so hostile towards the man, she wasn’t like this with anyone else…maybe it was just because he was annoying as hell.
But none the less, he continued to help her and be as nice as he possibly could, basically lifting her up into the saddle. She said her thanks, and walked Absolem off to the warm up area, as she got her foot in the correct position so that it didn’t hurt so much. Their warming up was longer now that Kira was injured, as she had to adjust, too. She was starting to find hidden little spots and positions that would take most of the pain away when performing her test, and she had even gone over a pole atop two buckets, to see if her foot would hold going over small jumps. Hopefully she was completely back on track soon.
After a vigorous yet calm 45 minute warm up, it was time for Kiralee and Absolem to enter the arena to perform their test. Damone was standing a little from the entrance and offered her a bottle of water which she thankfully took a couple of sips of, before re-collecting herself, and pushing the stallion on. As soon as they entered the white railing fence, the sun glared through the windows, and the entire covered area was immediately bouncing with colours. Kira has to squint her eyes to see as they adjusted, but once she had saluted the judges, all things were blocked from her mind as she and Absolem began their magical dance in the beautiful lights.
Artist’s Comments:
Another show entry for my gorgeous boy Absolem. ^u^ I’m rather pleased with this one, too, and I’ve discovered the secrets of playing around with colours and overlaying masks. Hopefully now I’ll be able to spruce up my art even further.
All helpful comments are welcome, please do tell me what you think!
