Description I recall clipping my first horse, a bay Morgan mare, and loving how gray she was afterwards. She looked hilarious. xD So I decided to give Javert the same makeover. Hehe! As Javert's training session increased in difficulty and the Kentucky weather because more hostile and cold, Vivian acknowledged the need to clip the young Norwegian Warmblood stallion. After a brief introduction to the clippers and their vibration, the shearing began. Vivian traced the hunter clip on the stallion's glossy black coat with white chalk and then set to work to clean up the stallion. Javert stood patiently and calmly as the clippers buzzed over his body and slid over his face. By the time the task was finished, Javert stood mostly naked and looking grey. And all of his hair had been successfully transferred to Vivian and the barn aisle.LMAO Yup. Clipping a horse is just the process of transferring the horse's hair from their body to yours. xD

I absolutely LOVE how you do the angle. The most I've ever done is the underbelly of a horse jumping, and well, it didn't look to good. I couldn't even begin to attempt something like this. ^^

Great work on all of your drawings, too ~

Thank you so much! Thanks! The angle was HARD. HARD. I had to draw so many lines for perspective. xD

You're welcome I can hardly draw a horse facing sideways, let alone one at an angle

This is so cute! The foreshortening effect is amazing!!!! I wouldn't ever attempt an angle like that, but you pulled it off amazing as usual!!!

Aww, this came out so great! I love it Just the kind of every-day life/stable pics I always look for in HARPG

Great job with the foreshortening/perspective and the shading is epic - it really does look like the hair's been taken off (I remember clipping a bay mare, too - they go such a funny colour! And I had to clip an odd little pony once, too, and her hair grew in strange directions rather than all the same, so we had to keep clipping at strange angles to get the hair off ) I love Javert's slightly concerned expression, too ^^ And the white chalk outline!

But I'm sure its a safety hazard having that cable trailing XD - we used to get yelled at if it wasn't over our shoulders

Im so glad tht SOMEONE noticed the chalk! Yaaaay!!! It may be my favorite part of this pic. xD LMAO Thank youuuuuu!!!

Nah. xD I've never picked it up. Never had a problem before. Ill learn from my mistakes eventually. Haha!

Haha No problem XD Glad to be of service (it is epic, and that is one of the most fun parts of rl clipping, too )

And fair enough XD - I did do most of mine on a student yard which was run strictly BHS, so that's likely why they were so fussy about the simplest things

It is!!! xD Haha!!!

I've worked for a lot of fussy trainers in my life, but the majority of them were so grateful that I actually knew how to clip a horse and could relieve them of the task, that they didn't care whether the cord was on the ground or not. xD

Especially if you put in funny shapes (or do what we did once and just draw on the skeleton instead...)

And that's true, I guess. When I was doing my second year and then my degree, the staff were so thankful to have people who knew how clippers worked while dealing with the new students that they did let up a bit on the rules if we weren't being assessed.

Tattered-Dreams In reply to walktrotcanter7 [2013-02-23 08:29:22 +0000 UTC]

Haha, we had assessments on it, so for one of them, our tutor handed us the clipping chalk and said we had to work in pairs to get it right (then the fail moment when one of the groups was assigned a fleabitten grey and had to switch to a darker horse )

I know - tutors didn't always think these things through (though someone did have some very cool green chalk that might have worked...)

I honestly agree! Though I start with the head first, and don't do any circles like most drawers.. So when it comes to angles like that im lost.

walktrotcanter7 In reply to Mud-Foot [2013-02-22 03:26:03 +0000 UTC]

I don't do the circle thing anymore either. xD Especially not with the angles. That'd be too hard. Haha!

Well maybe.. And this is just a maybe now You could do a WIP of an angle before you go into outlining and ect..

I just clipped my horse today! And I'm itchy all over from the hair. I once made the mistake of wearing a fleece to clip, I had to throw it away afterwards. It was like a porcupine costume

BAHAHAHA! I made the SAME MISTAKE clipping Dudley. Dudley who is a nearly-white/silver gray. xD IT WAS TERRIBLE!!!!!! But I did manage to get all of te hair out wry successfully in the washer.

TavieTastic In reply to walktrotcanter7 [2013-02-22 07:48:49 +0000 UTC]

wel my boy is piebald/black tobiano so it was pretty bad. I've had to throw it out, it's been through the wash so many times but the hair has sort of embedded in it. Hopefully Vi has been sensible and worn a cotton t shirt that only needs one wash to recover

Hehehehe! xD You'll notice she is in denim and a teeshirt. xD Yeah, I know the pains of clipping, so I prepared Vi for the onslaught of hair. LMAO
