Description
The Cape Rockjumper, Chaetops frenatus, is together with the closely related Drakensberg Rockjumper, representative of a bird family that only occurs inside the borders of South Africa! It's the only family so restricted. Rockjumpers are thrush-like birds, previously thought to belong in that family, or to be relatives of babblers. Now they're known to be unique. They live in rocky regions, and are rather shy; if approached, they'll dive behind a rock or bush and then reappear in quite a different place. Acrylic painting.
