Description
This, the orange-breasted waxbill, Amandava subflava, is sometimes called the zebra waxbill. It occurs widely in Africa, found in rank grass and reedbeds. It is difficult to see since it hides in the dense vegetation and rapidly flies away if disturbed. It is a very small bird, 10m/4" in total length. These waxbills, instead of building their own nests, often take over the abandoned woven grass nests of weavers, widows and bishops. Acrylic painting.
