Actually the vast bulk of my orders are out of state, and as I think of it the majority of those are from California. But these are going to a gallery show at the Muckenthaller Center, so they are not yet sold.
For larger repousse projects I will buy sterling silver sheet, but for smaller projects, or work in fine silver I usually mill my own metal.

Usually through Rio Grande, Albuquerque. They have very quick mail order service. You could also give Otto Frie and Co. a shot.

wowza! I love it! How much would you charge for a comission on a piece similar to this?

$50 to $70 depending on the design; Is there something special you had in mind?

My boyfriend and I are in the midst of designing a cob house that we plan on initiating the construction of within the next lifetime. I love the way this plaque looks, so earthy and natural, and want such detailed pieces in my dream home. Because we won't be having a whole lot of light switches in the house, I think I will be able to afford such beautiful switch plates. How long does it take to make a piece? *we are acumulating details for the home, so I will be comissioning pieces long before the actual construction of the house*

That's exciting, but you can be making the bits you will want for that dream house, and using many of them in the house you are in now. It is those little detail bits that really make a place, and there is no reason to wait. I think you could make one of those in about half a day, with a little practice with a jewelry saw and graver. I have made a lot little detail elements for my house. At this point in my life I'm getting a bit old to be building that timber framed dream house that I made all those drawings for. But I am making the house I could buy without a job or a bank a whole lot nicer to live in. So if you are interested in ordering something like this I would be into working on some designs with you.
