Description Okay, I know some of my watchers think of these as flying rats (even though it's a dove, not a pigeon! ), so I'll say sorry to y'all now.

The parents of the Harbingers of Fluffy Doom have gone on to have another baby, who I found sitting in a bush yesterday. It didn't exactly seem impressed to see me, but it didn't try and fly off, either; so I was able to get in close enough for this portrait.

Yeah, we seem to have an army of these things around lately, it's almost impossible not to photograph them!

Thank you for the fave.

It really is a great shot! Very well cropped!!! We have lots of them here too! Up to now I've never taken a picture of them (at least, not a close-up).

Got to buy another camera first! I cannot add lenses to the camera I use now (Canon Digital IXUS 50). I think I will buy a Canon EOS20D with some lensen (as soon as I got the money for it).

We've got a few of both doves and pigeons, too. But for every one we have in one of our averies, there's probably 5 that're wild but hang around our house all the time anyway, lol.

Thanks for the fave.

Haha same here! I just got my pigeons, and they're adorable, but a little timid too.. I hope that's gonna change

wolfskin In reply to Beautifull-Freak [2006-02-08 04:25:02 +0000 UTC]

They'll probably be fine once they get used to you.

Beautifull-Freak In reply to wolfskin [2006-02-08 13:12:25 +0000 UTC]

Yay I hope they will! I'm trying to feed them out of my hand, but they're not really into that just yet.. They get close enough to eat out of my hand, but they daren't take the grains in my hand.. It's so odd... *hugs the pigeons*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wolfskin In reply to Beautifull-Freak [2006-02-09 00:21:40 +0000 UTC]

The fact that they're getting that close already is a good sign, I think. At least they're not trying to get as far away from you as possible as soon as they see you.

Beautifull-Freak In reply to wolfskin [2006-02-09 07:13:26 +0000 UTC]

wolfskin In reply to FNQ [2006-02-06 06:23:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks

I'm not really that big on pigeons, or regular doves (just because we've got so many of them around, either in our averies or wild ones that know where their best source of food is ), but I've always liked topknots and the white doves we've got around here.

Wonderful! I simply adore the reflection in the eyes of the dove. And for some reason that sounded like a song lyric or title. In any case, it is a great shot.

wolfskin In reply to rainflowers [2006-02-05 03:19:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks

And you're right, it is pretty crazy, lol. But these two birds and their babies just really don't care all that much about our existence, as long as we're giving them seed. Which is doubly weird, because another couple of the same sort of doves are a lot more wary of us (not wary enough to not come and get the seed as well, mind you ).
