Description "Singing hymns and waving palm branches through all eternity is pretty when you hear about it in the pulpit, but it's as poor a way to put in valuable time as a body could contrive."
-Mark Twain

Playing around with the construction paper cutout look a bit more. Trying to make it look more 3D and create a scene (instead of just a single character).

And just one last Twain quote for good measure (the one that originally inspired this drawing):

"Everything human is pathetic. The secret source of Humor itself is not joy but sorrow. There is no humor in heaven."

Thank you!! Thanks for the fav too. It's greatly appreciated. One quick question for you... those painted Kill Bill shoes that you made a while, did you spray them with something afterward to keep the paint from washing off or peeling?

cool-slayer In reply to WonderDookie [2008-06-30 11:19:48 +0000 UTC]

no, and that's actually why I haven't worn them much, I want to find out something to protect the painting, but thus far I haven't found anything around here. I need to keep looking for it, I want to keep them in good condition! Once I find out, I'll probably paint a couple more shoes too. Are you thinking of painting some? If you find out what's good to protect them, let me know as well

I was considering it, but I also have a friend that colored a pair, and we were trying to figure out something to keep them from bleeding and peeling.

My father and I are both respectable Twain-heads, the next time you're in Hartford CT, his house is worth a visit.

Yeah, I've heard it's a nice little roadside attraction. Ultimately I get a little bored with stuff like that though. No explosions!!

Thanks! There are still a few issues that I'm trying to resolve with it, but I'm glad this one looks polished.

One of the coolest things you ever created, which is really saying something!

So awesome, love your God! And the paper look, of course.

Hmm.. it's not God but Mark Twain. Unless you consider Twain to be God. That would add a new wrinkle to his writing.

Thanks!

Whoa! I'm super behind on deviations! This one is great man! Probably my favorite ... although the Slimer one is pretty top-notch. You'd better be careful with this fancy new style or you might end up with a 4th Daily Deviation on your hands!

Something funny happened las week when I was walking : I thought of Mark Twain and his books, then suddenly, I saw an man smoking a pipe... and he looked EXACTLY like him !
So, I have to fav this !

haha. I thought that I saw a Twain model walking down the street in Grand Theft Auto 4 the other day. I guess he's being reincarnated in all sorts of forms.

I've checked out this work at least once a day since you posted it. A few friends and I were recently talking about how shitty Heaven would be without all the vices we know and love. The concept's a paradox I guess. This is the perfect visual depiction of that point as well as the quotes you've included in your write-up. You've got a great deal of talent, well done.

Also, I really dig the new style. It makes your stuff even more original and it's got a lot of potential for growth and innovation. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it in the near future.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WonderDookie In reply to T-Wiz [2008-05-06 01:50:41 +0000 UTC]

Ha. Yeah. I always wondered about that. Heaven would have to be super boring.

Thanks man! I'm really hoping to do something distinct. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far.

haha. Yeah. I think the colonel sort of stole Twain's style. I used to mix them up when I was a kid.

Thanks! I'm seriously considering sticking to this style quite a lot now.

Thanks! I'm definitely going to pursue this style some more.

Haha, Twain really puts a positive spin on humanity, doesn't he?

I like this caricature of him, and I love his dark circles and bags around his eyes. He looks truly depressed in Utopia. ><

Good work, as always.

This technique is very intersting to me...I could see how some pretty cool art can come from it. And this is a great example of that...I really like the angels and how they pop out. Nice...your thinking outside the box for sure.

Ah Twain and his cigars. Funny thing to know, my town is famous for having him buried in our cemetary. We love to promote the hell out of that. This also reminded me of the episode of ST:TNG where he wound up in the future and complained about not being able to get a good cigar despite all the fancy technology everywhere.

WonderDookie In reply to Little-Green-Cat [2008-04-28 04:52:28 +0000 UTC]

I don't actually know that acronym. ST:TNG
