This is awesome. Love the gritty look of this. Kind of a departure for you, no?

Yeah. Definitely a departure. I did the drawing entirely on the computer, and I think that was one of the first times I've done that.

One of the reasons I really want to get me a Cintique. Just for the experimentation and exploration alone.

Oh man. I want one of those so bad. I try not to think about it, or I'll go crazy.

Fantastic film-- a work of art.
I like the rough texture of the lines in this-- definitely a departure of your usual style, and very fitting of the subject matter. Really cool sketch.

Thanks! Sometimes I wonder if all of my "departures from my usual style" get a bit distracting... but I'm just so ADHD about illustration styles.

Thanks man! Thanks for checking out the blog too. I keep trying to slowly switch to the blog rather than devart... but devart is just so much easier for everybody.
And, yes... it was SO awesome.

Thank you much!
Honestly it was almost exactly a screenshot from the movie. There was one shot in the film that was just SO cool, and luckily I found a screen cap.

Haha, yeah, well I've been there tons of times so no harm no foul. It still has plenty of your own pizazz, anyway.

Excellent! Thanks.
I'm always really paranoid doing a drawing directly from a screenshot... in fact, I think this is the first time I've done it... this time the shot was just SO cool though. I couldn't resist.

Soooo good. I love the cinematography. And the score! It was so simplistic and only included a handful of songs if that. I completely forgot that Matt Damon was Matt Damon and totally invested in the character, and that freaking scene when that young guy gets his fingers chopped off and stabbed, Guh! So awesome. ...Oh, and that guy in the bear skin.
Westerns, gotta love um'.

WonderDookie In reply to tree27 [2011-07-09 03:14:45 +0000 UTC]
Yeah! Damon was really surprisingly good in that movie. He fit in well with all of the other ridiculous Coen brothers actors. I was a little skeptical when I first heard he was in the film, but it was pretty seamless.
It's funny how everybody's voice in the movie had so much character too. Damon's was the least ridiculous until he went and half bit his tongue off. It was almost like an initiation into being a Coen actor.

Oh man, oh man! INSTANT fave. I freaking love that movie (as I knew I would) and I had a feeling that eventually you would draw something True Grit-related. And you did not disappoint. This is wicked cool. I LOVE the line art; it almost looks like felt-tip marker. But I know it's not. Which makes it cooler.
Now I'm rambling. Good job, sport.

haha. If it's Coen Brothers, than I will draw it. I still have to figure out a Hudsucker and Miller's Crossing drawing (I just found Miller's Crossing for less than $5 yesterday! Hurray!)
Thanks! I'm glad you like the line art style. I've been having a bit of fun with that for the last week. Hopefully I can get good at it and take a step out of the whole illustrating process.

I'd say the 2011 version is mostly faithful to the book. I haven't seen the 1969 version, but from what I have seen, it takes more creative license.

Oh no. You said the magic words. I can't even read the name "David Lynch" without flinching. I watched Lost Highway in a cabin in the middle of the woods with a few friends of mine years ago... and afterwards we were seriously about ready to murder each other.

Urgh. I just can't stand his movies. There is something about them that just creeps me out. Sometimes it feels a bit more like watching his weird fetishes than an actual movie.
