Description Whenever people ask me about my preferences and I tell them that I'm sapioromantic, the first thing that comes out of their mouth every single time without fail is something along the lines of "THAT'S ABLEIST!" ...Because they seem to think that means I'm attracted to people's IQs, and mentally disabled/disordered people are stereotyped with having low IQs. Which is a load of horseshit, speaking as someone with a mental disorder myself.

An IQ is just a stupid fucking number. I'm not attracted to numbers. Numbers have been the bane of my existence anyway; they have tormented me since I was a child. Why the fuck would I be attracted to them?!

In fact, IQs are really just to estimate someone's intellectual potential...and help pinpoint intellectual disabilities. Most people with really high IQs have been known to exhibit many intellectual disabilities or disorders, or estimated to be somewhere on the autism spectrum...Or have Asperger's. They're just extremely high functioning. Seriously, did it ever occur to you that mentally ill people can still be phenomenally intelligent in many other ways not pertaining to their disability?

Beethoven suffered from bipolar depression/mania.

Michelangelo was possibly autistic.

And many historians believe that Isaac Newton--the guy who discovered gravity and established a shit-ton of scientific laws--was bipolar, autistic, and schizophrenic.

The only historical genius who was eccentric but didn't seem to actually suffer from any mental illnesses was Einstein.

And this is going by works of fiction, but with nearly every book I read that has a genius character...At a certain point in their stories (or multiple times in the stories), that character goes a little crazy for a bit.

I'm attracted to the way people use their brains. Or their cognitive abilities. Don't ask me why, I have no idea why I have this attraction. But whatever fucking reason, people's intellectual abilities are the most attractive trait to me and emotionally turns me on. And not really in a sexual way...More of the "I WANNA HUG YOU!  " way. (JK Rowling, for example. Or my boyfriend. (It also happens with fictional characters, like "Artemis Fowl" or my very own villain.) It's bad enough people think asexuality or being "demisexual" is fake...Being both asexual/demi AND "sapioromantic" attracts even more criticism.

And just because someone has a high IQ does not mean they're 100% perfect and never do anything stupid at all. My villain has the IQ of 285 and he loves showcasing his genius, mostly out of spite. And yet, he still has plenty of moments where he doesn't exhibit common sense or doesn't think things all the way through...Or has those "WTF ARE DOING, U ASSHAT?" moments. If he were real, his behaviors would probably put him somewhere on the autism spectrum. Maybe even Asperger's. (SPOILER: And he does have a legit mental breakdown much later on, with the results haunting him for the rest of his life.)

...He's just a natural genius with numbers and science, especially with IT and engineering. (i.e. A walking, talking encyclopedia, dictionary, and calculator...All rolled into one short-tempered asshole.) With anything else not pertaining to those fields, he's average or just sucks.

Besides, how can I be attracted to people's IQs when I don't even know what they are? It's not like there's some Sim blob hanging over their heads that displays numbers. And not realizing this simple logic is one of the reasons why I'm probably not attracted to you.

...I don't even know what my own IQ is, for god's sake!
