Choerosuchus gracilis is a species of mekosuchine found in New Caledonia. It is a descendant of the Mekosuchus genus, which arrived to New Caledonia at some point in the past. Although mekosuchines were the first crocodilians to estabilish terrestrial species in the island, the crocodylines, that arrived afterwards, estabilished themselves as dominant terrestrial carnivores, instead. Choerosuchus lives 30 million years in the future, in New Caledonia. It has a large head with heterodont dentition. Wide crushing teeth exist at the back of the jawline, with a pair of tusk-like teeth protruding from the tip of the lower jaw, like the tusks of a swine. This crocodilian is a omnivore, patrolling the forest floor, feeding on arthropods, fruits, nuts, eggs and other small animals that it can make short work with its peculiar jaws. It has a short roundish armored tail, and digitigrade feet, that end in almost hoof-like claws. These adaptations allow the Choerosuchus to adapt to a ground-dwelling lifestyle, occupying guilds reminiscent to that of omnivorous terrestrial mammals that exist elsewhere in the world. Although they have armor running across its dorso and tail, Choerosuchus has predators in the form of large terrestrial crocodylines, which split from the saltwater crocodile somewhere in the early Pliocene.
